Muncie 318 disassembly help

I've started tearing into one of the overdrive transmissions I picked up and have got it torn down except for the reverse idle gear. This is my first dive into rebuilding a trans and I can't find anything online about how I'm supposed to get this sucker out! I'm sure one of the gurus on here knows what to do!

It looks like the reverse idle gear is pinned? Anyone know how to access this pin? I haven't been able to locate it.

Still havent figured out how to get reverse idler gear out yet!

Part #31 shows a pin for the idler gear....I would think it would have to be visible enough to get a punch on it.

Have you looked into the factory assembly book? If you don't have a copy, I can scan the pages you need. I know its in that book.

OK, glad it was able to help some. The diagrams I sent should be of some help too. The scans are too large for the forum, but better quality the way I sent them. Let me know if you need any other pages from the shop manual. It covers all the transmissions offered in the 63 line up. The shop manual is well worth the $30-40....and I find the originals at the same cost as the repops on ebay. Its my truck bible.

I just looked a little closer at the first diagram and there is a good view of its location.

I'll have to pony up for a manual, that would be extremely helpful I'm sure.

You just knock the pin the rest of the way into the shaft; the pin is short enough it will go all the way in without touching the case. Then you can just slide the whole thing out.

Brilliant! I didnt even think of that. You and 1963c-10 are my heros for today. Thanks to his manual I was able to finally locate the pin, under a nice thick layer of crud.
