Wiw 1974 longbed

UPDATE TIME

got the pics uploaded below. it runs and drives. the 6 blows a little blue smoke but this truck screams v8 anyways.nice truck little rust in the doors and a small dent or two here and there. its a cool original truck. lets see if we can put a number on it.

hey I am new to the square body thing. I am really a 67-72 guy but a friends fathers 74 c10 longbed all original just popped up and I am thinking of buying it. its a ny truck all its life but is supposedly rust free except for driver rocker and someone rubbed the pass bed side a little. it has the straight 6 in it that wont stay running but nothing a tuneup and vac hoses wont fix and an auto. all in all a nice truck its red or orange I cant remember trying to get some updated pics. what is something like that worth. and please factor that I am in the rust belt so clean trucks are hard to find.

$1500-$2000? That's maybe a little generous though, more like an asking price.

Re: Wiw 1974 longbed

boy hopefully someone from the area can chime in. because if that's all its worth I wont even bother. I cant believe squares are really worth nothing even in decent not rusted out original shape.

Re: Wiw 1974 longbed

That's the thing, it's not a clean rust free original. It's got rust and dents from being used for 40 years. It's also got the wrong tailgate and box, and something fishy with the small brake pedal. Not as rusty as some, but not rust free or original. Don't get me wrong, it's a neat truck. 6cyl makes it neat, as does any sentimental value it might have, but unless I'm missing something like some ridiculously low miles or something I don't think it's going to fetch much.

Value is pretty subjective though, I'd give $10k for a Jasmine yellow '78 LUV in that condition. Most guys would call that nuts.

Re: Wiw 1974 longbed

Sorry that last post sounds kinda jerkish. Not my intent.

Really it is a neat truck, I'd say jump on it and freshen it up. Get it running like a top, buff the paint up but leave the blemishes, clean up the wheels and caps and get some fresh white walls on, and make it low. Like 4-5" low but keep the pickup rake. Maybe even keep the stake sides but cut them down to 2-3 boards. You could probably buy the truck and do that stuff for under $4k and have a pretty neat pickup for cruising.
