turning ratio 2wd/4wd

Today I measured the turning ratio on my 1977 3/4 ton 2wd Suburban (with 14 bolt full floater rear axle) versus the turning ratio on my 1982 3/4 ton 4wd Suburban (with 14 bolt semi float rear axle) and the 4x4 had approximately 49 inches better turning ratio!!

Can anyone explain this to me?

The 2wd looks like the rear is wider? than the front and on the 4wd the rear is 3 inches narrower, I learned.

Re: turning ratio 2wd/4wd

I don't think it has anything to do with the rear.
I think the 4x4 front axle allows the wheels to turn more than the 2wd front suspension.

And yes the front is wider on a 4x4.
It has something to do with keeping the rear wheels in a different "track" than the fronts when you need the 4x4 part.
