200-4r trans in a 2wd ?
Has anyone here put a 200-4r in a 2wd blazer or jimmy? Can you show pics and or dimensions of where the crossmember would sit?

Re: 200-4r trans in a 2wd ?
I've put one in a car. It sits in the same place as a th350. So thecrissmrmber should sit in the same spot on a truck too. You need to hook up the lockup converter to your brake pedal power or it won't last long.

Re: 200-4r trans in a 2wd ?
There seems to be a difference between a 200-4r and a th350. Cross member need to go back somewhere between 4-6 "
When I take some measurements the trans crossmember ends up sitting right next to the crossmember the trailering arms attach to

Re: 200-4r trans in a 2wd ?
Then I don't know. I even used the stock crossmember in the same place on the frame. Was on a 67 impala. But from what I did the trans was the same length and I didn't have to mod the driveshaft either. There may be more than one style and tail housing though. I remember there being two different ones with bell housing pattern for Buick Pontiac and one that was universal for all gm vehicles. I believe I had the universal mounting with a u shape cut into the upper section of the bell housing. Maybe you have a different model.

Re: 200-4r trans in a 2wd ?
If memory serves, the TH200 4R has the mount in the same position as the TH400 but it is the same overall length as a TH350 and uses the same spline count so it is a bolt in for a TH350 if you move the crossmember back to the TH400 position.
The 200 has the best gear range of the 4 speed autos IMO. The new 6 speeds are probably better, but not in the same price range!

Re: 200-4r trans in a 2wd ?
Maybe I did have to move the crossmember back then. It's been 20 years and 20 cars ago now. Maybe since it was out of the way I just lined up some bolt holes and went with it. Hopefully that will work then. You can always drill holes in the frame to Make it fit too if you want to run that trans.

Re: 200-4r trans in a 2wd ?
I ended up digging the engine out of storage and mocked it up.
I will answer my own question. The crossmember needs to move back 6.5" from the furthest position. The exhaust hanger bracket needs to be removed and relocated. The crossmember also needs to be notched to clear some rivets in the frame.

Looks like the e brake cables might be a problem.

Picture is upside down. The notches are on the bottom

Re: 200-4r trans in a 2wd ?
The transmission is the same length as a th350 but the mount is further back. You won't have to mod your driveshaft length. I have considered this upgrade for my Chevelle but the 5 or 6 speed is calling my name. The gearing spread in this tranny is supposed to be one of the best. I think you will enjoy it.

Re: 200-4r trans in a 2wd ?
I should clarify. This setup is for a 6 cylinder. If you had a v8 the crossmember wouldn't be that far to the rear but would still go back 6.5". It looks like you would still need to drill new holes in the frame but wouldn't have to notch the crossmember.

Re: 200-4r trans in a 2wd ?
I have a 200 in my 71 2wd, with a v8 and my crossmember ended up further back. My engine is set back as far as it can go though.

Re: 200-4r trans in a 2wd ?
Yes the e brake cable that runs side to side, rubs on the trans mount. One of these days Ill remedy it, but I hardly ever use the ebrake. Looking at your pics I would say your trans crossmember is about 2" forward of mine. I actually had to take out the front rivets of the trailing arm crossmember and use common bolts between it and the trans member.
