Hidden from the outside only, but these are stainless marine hatch hinges. That's not my truck, but I did the same thing. I just can't find my own pics right now.

The above photo looks good. Here's the way I went. You can get bolt-on or weld on if you're redoing the truck anyway (paint/bodywork). Worked out well....

How do you support your tailgate when it's open?

Re: Lose the tailgate chains

I just got some high-strength cable (like for locking things with a padlock). Its rubber coated so it won't scratch the finish, and its much much lighter than the chain. It also doesn't make noise, and can still support a human and beer cooler. I plast-dipped the hooks and a locking piece, all fits together and doesn't rattle.

I wouldn't use it for a work-truck tho, but the collars hold the cable pretty securely, and are more than enough for a hot rod. *sorry if images don't load due to photobuckets bandwidth cap

Re: Lose the tailgate chains

Currently, I don't open mine. Eventually, I'm adding the Mar-K hinges so that I can.

Those Frantsen latches and cables are top shelf. I had a set on my '70 stepside.
