When do you work on your truck?

My garage lighting isn't the best but I'm going to have to begin working on my truck at night if I hope to finish it this summer. When, during daytime or during nighttime, do you primarily work on your truck?

weekends whenever i can. nights between 11 and 3. i dont do much during the weekdays because im in an office park and i dont want to make a racket while people have business going on. oh and Im supposed to be doing business during the days. the whole money thing...

I try to do one small thing at a time. Easy to get overwhelmed . Pick a project or a piece of one and get it done, mostly weekends for me.

My work times are all over the place. I'm a night shift nurse, so I never know when I'm going to get at it. My biggest problem is I do all my work in my driveway, which means if I'm working at night, I can't light up the joint like the 4th of July.

My sister-in-law got us this Coleman tent light for camping. It's way too heavy for backpacking, but great for working on the truck. It has a magnet and swivels. I stick it to the truck, point it in the right direction and love the thing.

Mainly weekends. Occasionally I'm able to take a half-day on Fridays which is really nice. I can get way more done without the any distractions. I may do a small project or tinker out in the garage during the week but not often.

I work a single on wednesday and a double on thursday and friday. Even with 4 days off i still only manage to get a day or two a week on my project.

I'm retired, so I can work on it anytime really, and I do about 2-6 hours a day. I go in waves though. Sometimes I'll code for 6 months and not really work on cars and sometimes I'll ONLY work on cars for several months. I'm just wired a little nutty, to cross metaphors.

If you're lucky it's also nice to have a little side-project. I installed a 3rd Brake Light strobe (20Hz for the first 5 seconds, then normal) on my late-model today. So nice to work on a modern car for a while. Then back to the truck!

I also suck at cleaning my shop. I mean it doesn't get gross, but it gets cluttered where all the workbenches are covered in the middle of some little project that got paused for lack of a part, that sort of thing. I wish I was better at that because I know intellectually that working in a tidy shop is worth way more than the work it takes to tidy it. But I still have to force it!

Being retired, I can work on it any time I want.

I farm so rainy days and winter are the general work times. Or you know nice days when all the other tasks are done.

Whenever I can, I have 3 kids aged 6, 3 and 1. So it usually ends up being after bedtime.

I tried doing it at home with my young sons, but homeowners association hates people working on cars/trucks in their driveway. Too many people with not enough to do I guess. So I moved it to my office which has a storage warehouse area with a large roll up door. Nearly ideal, but I had an employee complain to OSHA about odors, which caused an inspection (no violations!). Like Joint Tech said, I try not to make a racket, I do little things when I can during the day, then wait until after work hours to work with my boys and wait until weekends for test running.

"Not often enough" that's why it's been 3 years!!! It seems like I get more done to mine in the winter months. It's nice to work on it in a warm garage when the weather is crappy outside. The summer months seem to busy keeping up with the yard and everything else.

On the weekends, and small projects at night during the weekdays.
My garage was dark as well, so I bought three plug in fluorescent lights, and mounted them on the ceiling. Cost a total of $60. I say let there be light!

I've been putting around for a long time, but the wife is going to have knee-replacement surgery next week. I'm taking eight days off work to be home with her. But I plan to use the time to get some things done on the truck that I've wanted to do for a while now.

When? When time allows. I don't care what the clock says. I prefer to "not" work on my trucks when the metal's so cold your fingers freeze or when it's so hot sweat is running in my eyes. I can't see chit without great lighting no matter what time of day. In bright sunlight the contrast between bright and shadowed areas even messes me up. I feel the day I stop working on my trucks will be the day my sight gets to where it makes things too frustrating to enjoy it. I see glasses in my future

I for one am mostly a saturday guy, i work shift work so it makes it hard to find time with the woman. She works a bit later when I have a day shift so i get a couple hours after work during that time. Usually always have an idea or thinking how to do things with the truck.

Lucky you have a garage. I work on mine under a carport, so the weather dictates when I work on it. In the south, the summer time can be MISERABLE during daylight hours and very "buggy" at night unless using nightvision goggles (which ain't very productive ). So spring & fall when all is good in the weather world.

But, hopefully very soon I will be the proud owner of a 30'x48'x16' "Man-building"...with LOTS of light
