Oddball 1968 GMC
Ran across this GMC with a vin of CM3OVPB41045. I will be looking at it this afternoon. It is a short bed, V6, 4 speed, power drum brakes, buddy bucket seats, and a 1 ton chassis. No sticker in glove box... It was ordered as a cab and chassis by a farmer from what I understand. Anybody ever see something like this?

Look at the frame in front of the rear wheels and see if it has been cut down and welded to a shortbed.

GM did not make a 1 ton or 3/4 ton as a shortbed. With that being said there a couple possible scenarios: 1 the frame is a factory 1/2 ton shortbed frame with 3/4 ton or 1 ton suspension installed under. 2 the frame and suspension are all from a 3/4 ton or 1 ton and the frame was cut down.

Without seeing the frame I won't say it's not a 1 ton that has been shortened. More than likely a 3/4 ton that has been shortened. I don't what the vin says about it but maybe a 1 ton cab has been mounted on another frame as well. V-6 is fairly common in the 67-68 GMC's, less common if its a 351. Looks like a Custom cab, what does the GMC emblems say, 2500 or 3500, V-8 or V-6? Buddy buckets are a nice score too, also found a lot in 67-68 GMC's. I would say more often than Chevys anyway. Either way looks like a good solid project.

I bought the truck. It is a 1 ton. 3500 and v-six on the fender emblem. The frame has been shortened. It was a cab and chassis order, so it would not have had a bed from the factory. More than likely it had a stake bed on it. I may try to find a 6 foot stake bed and sell the other one. Other than a little rust in the rockers, it just needs some trim around the front, and down the sides. I will probably pull out the V6 and put in a 350 and a 700r4. This needs to be my daily driver, but I don't want it all polished and shiny...

Glad to see you here with the pics! Cool looking old truck, and I am fond of those AR-226 wheels, I have a set of 5 lug like those on my 36 2 door sedan.

For those that "know"... the inside looks stock and untouched...
Was it correct to have parchment door panels/arm rests with sandlewood dash/seats/instrument cluster/steering column/wheel? I know they did weird stuff with GMCs... Congrats on the purchase. Very cool truck. If you add a stake bed, are you going to stretch the chassis back to 133"?

good score non the less. I've had 2 GMC's that didn't have a SPID or even signs of one on the glove box. In the 67 I found the option sheet behind the carpet that covers the gas tank because of the buckets. you may look there, also maybe under the carpet or rubber mat. The 68 I traded off before I could look around for the option sheet. wonder if 67-68 GMC's used a SPID on the glove box?, Anyone know?
