BIG price tag on a '66 Pickup
I was watching Mecum auction about a week ago. A 1966 Cheyenne (I think that's the upgrade) short bed came up. It had a 283 v8, automatic, and air. It was light green with cream/white top. It was a fleetside. ALL original but disc brakes. Tastefully restored. Underside like new.
The seller turned down $45,000. Apparently the engine, trans, and air bring out the high rollers. |

Re: BIG price tag on a '66 Pickup
I was just channel surfing. Sorry, no lot number. But it was a recent auction if that helps. I don't know whether it was Cheyenne either. I just remember it had white between body side chrome so I thought that made it deluxe model. Think the sale was in Indianopolis.

Re: BIG price tag on a '66 Pickup
The "Cheyenne" option came out in '71. I do believe the '66 upgrade would be "Custom".

Re: BIG price tag on a '66 Pickup
Yes, its a VERY nice truck. That truck originated over in Michigan, I know the last owner but he only had it a month or so.

Re: BIG price tag on a '66 Pickup
the green and white short bed sure looks and sounds the same. I do recall the aftermarket radio and disc brakes. I thought the air was original but it sounds like that one has a vintage addition . I thought the green was more pale but that could be a brain fart.

Re: BIG price tag on a '66 Pickup
I wouldn't take 45k for my frame off resto when its finished. Would have to go find something else or be stuck with depreciating worthless dollars if I did.

Re: BIG price tag on a '66 Pickup
according to John Gunnell's book "Chevrolet Pickups 1946-1972, the truck is a C-10 Custom. Brooks Trucks is correct. The Cheyenne didn't come on the scene until '71. My 66 GMC is also a Custom. Both Chevy and GMC designate "custom" on rear sides behind windows. 1967 introduced the Custom Sport Truck (CST).. those must be tough to find. Low production.

Re: BIG price tag on a '66 Pickup
Sorry. Bishops Trucks correctly identified trucks. Also wanted to mention, I may have seen this truck if its from MI. I saw it at a Rochester car show two years ago. Unless their are two in MI exactly the same. If its the same one, it wasn't restored yet but it was beautiful. The man who owned it didnt pay one third of Mecum figure. I did think he stole it though.

Re: BIG price tag on a '66 Pickup
No cheaper to restore that truck to that level than a '66 Vette. No wonder why seller didn't accept. I'm sure there's 45K in the restoration or more..
