My 68 5.3/4l60E swap

I have been working on this for about three months. I am at the point were I hope to hear it run this weekend. I figured I would start a little thread about it. This is my first time to do an LS swap and it has been fun to do it.

The motor is a 5.3 that has been bored .30 over, custom cam, little bit of work on the heads, TBSS LT headers, car intake, return less fuel system, 3600 stall, and built trans. This should be a fun truck.

I have rebuilt the whole front suspension using poly bushings, new ball joints, new tie rods, new 1in lowering springs, and a sway bar. The truck already had a disk brake conversion on it. The rear suspension will be rebuilt after the truck is moving on its own power.

Is the transmission an "e"? What engine management system are you going to use?

Wow nice project, it looks like progress was fast, but 3 months is longer then 9 pictures does justice. Looks like a pretty straight truck as well.

Yes it is an E. I have edited that on my title. I am using a factory ECM and a PSI harness. I am running a DBC TB on it.

There has been a few delays on the progress. It has actually gone pretty quick when I have been able to work on it. Its been fun. The truck is pretty straight, we uncovered a few bad spots when it came apart.

No big deal on the bad spots, from the looks of it you can handle it. What oil pan are you running with it?

I am running the H3 pan. I bough the muscle car pan kit.

My first time making AN hoses. It was not the easiest to do for the first few, but I got pretty good at it by the time I was done.

yeah that's a fun learning curve. I had a couple leakers. not at the hose side but the flare side. keep an eye peeled for any drips. also make sure your tank is vented, that will exacerbate any potential leaks

Yeah i have a small leak that I found last night when I went to start it for the first time. It is on the filter. I need to find it during the daylight and tighten it up.

It ALIVE!!! After not getting spark the first time I tried, i realized I had not hoked up the ground from the harness to the back of the head. Started right up after I hooked it up. I need to get another MAF sensor, mine set a code. It was awesome to hear it start for the first time.

Awesome man! Almost no better feeling than getting all the plumbing and wiring in place, and having it start up.

I remember my first fuel injection swap. I spent a week trying to get it started and couldn't figure it out. Turned out I was using an 85 computer with an 86' harness which had a different pinout. Swapped to an 86 computer and PRESTO, fired right up. Man that felt good.

Once you work out the MAF issue record a video and post it up!

Power steering is hooked up. Used the lines off my my other motor, with a couple of modified bends. I took the big nut out of the back of my other pump and put it into this one. That way i didn't have to put different end on the hose.

Lookin' good. For anyone looking for that muscle car pan kit, several people sell it for ~ $155. Part number 19212593.

Is the LH8 and muscle car pan the same?

Yes it is the same pan. The kit comes with the pan, dip stick, windage tray, pick up tube ant all the bolts to install it. It is nice to get all the parts in one box, and it fits great.

A mallet works great for AN fittings. I made AN connections for my extra trans oil cooler.
