CPP spindle problem

I'm trying to put the calipers on and found that the space that the caliper sits in on the spindle is too small. Is it ok to hit the ears with a flap wheel to make enough space for the caliper to fit in there? It's only off by about 1/16 to less than 1/8th. Or should I grind down the caliper?

Grind the spindle.
The bolts will locate the caliper.

Cool thanx! This thing is fighting me every step of the way. Starting to get frustrated with it but I will keep going. I at least want to get it on it's wheels before I take a break from it for a couple of weeks.

CPP's spindle castings seem to be getting sloppy lately.
Not enough machine work after they come out of the mold
in my opinion.

This was never an issue with Belltech.
But they cost more than most other brands.
Everyone is looking for low costs.

Just keep in mind the load from the braking is taken through the contact between the caliper and the spindle an this fit needs to be close and square. The bolts should never carry the load. I would never grind this fit. The only correct fix is to set it up and do it in a mill. If they were mine I would be on the phone with CPP and have them test fit a new set with a caliper and send them to you and send the others back. Being off between 1/16 and 1/8 of an inch is crazy. This is a safety issue and never be acceptable to ship crap like this.

I got problems with my cpp spindles too they are hitting the upper control arms so I guess when I get to my brakes they'll probably hit just like yours I modified my uppers and spindles to get enough clearence

Hi, donthekawguy. I know it's impossible to measure precisely, if at all, from pics. But your pics sure don't look like they're off all that much. Did you mean to say "1/16th to 1/8th", or was it "1/16th to 1/32nd"? I often err when working with small measurements and converting fractions If the smaller msmts. apply, methinks you and I both would be happier with flapping the spindle than with the larger.

Else, I totally agree with the earlier suggestion of returning the spindle for one that fits properly. Lotsa work on you: sorry! But YOU & I shouldn't have to modify new parts, that we paid OUR good money for, that are supposed to fit. I'd also think it reasonable for you to ask the vendor to pay for this shipping due to all the extra work/time it imposed on you.

Just for curiosity, how does the other side fit?

Even if you return them, you're most likely going to get the same thing back. The castings are rough.
In the amount of time it takes to type up this forum and the one on FB complaining about them, the problem could have been fixed using a flat file and cleaning up the mating surfaces. There's a good chance the calipers need a little clean up too, and all the paint doesn't help. The surfaces need to be clean and smooth, and apply a touch of anti-seize.

I also strongly recommend a mock up, "dry fit" so to speak on the bench before ever installing anything with multiple pieces. In 5 minutes on the bench you'd know if there was a concern and not waste time installing something them taking it back apart.

That's just me, I'm funny that way.

It is a really close fit and I did use por15 on the caliper which probably didn't help. Now that I got some sleep and the sun is out I'm going to take another look at it and see whats going on.

I got the pass. side on. I ground off the por 15 and smoothed the caliper a bit. It was tight but it's on and everything turns good. My back went out so I have to hold off for a few hours for the drivers side.

Normally I would say that you get what you pay for. But with CPP you pay a lot and still get parts that don't fit right and no support or customer service to make it right.

My spindles were the same. And my rear adapters wouldn't work without additional machining either. When I called CPP they basically said they couldn't help me and it was my problem. So after spending thousands on their entire power disk brakes, power steering and suspension parts all in one shot they couldn't offer to help me out, or even make me feel good that they were following up with their supplier to correct the situation? I've worked on many different makes of cars and bought and fit many different aftermarket parts. My experience with this stuff was one of the worst. Maybe my experience was unique, but I wouldn't recommend for anyone I know to buy through them.
