Need help - which end is front of leaf spring?

Hey all,

Went to mock up the rear end to start tacking in the spring perches. Got one side loosely mounted (not welded) and went to put the hardware on the other side and noticed that the locator stub on the other leaf was about 3 inches further back than the driver side. Appears that the locator stub isn't dead center in the leafs, which to me begs the question, how do I tell what side of the leaf spring should point forward, the long side, or short?

And of a leaf:

Thanks all!
