I bought a cheap old school syphon style gun from Harbor Freight. It did the trick. I also wet sanded and buffed the paint when I finished with 1500 grit paper and a Harbor Frieght buffer.

i have to agree when all else fails hot rod black nothing beats it best part is if you mess up sand and repaint that spot and you would never know

Rat rod black paint is not faux-tina . Completely different animal.

That's what I thought was kinda cool about that black GMC with the blue showing through.
It'd be like the truck was originally blue, but someone painted it RatRod black at one time, and over the years the blue is wearing through. I personally think many of the faux jobs are cool. Here is Lakeroadster's which was also done with rustolemm.

this Schwinn ( I know its not a truck) this is all the paint that was on it when I got it. I simple green and scotch brited it then wet sanded with 600 and satin cleared it
