Shifter clearance problem with Muncie 4 spd and bench seat

Having clearance problem with Hurst shifter made for bench seat in my C10 truck. Shift handle hits the bottom seat rail for 2nd and 4th gear. The only solution I can see at this point to to move the seat back or raise it up. Was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what they did to fix the problem. Thanks, Jim

What shifter do you have?
I had an M21 in my '63 for 20+ years with a Hurst Competition Plus shifter and a pickup truck shifter bar.
I pivoted the mounting plate for the shifter on the tailstock of the transmission as far forward as I could and bolted the shifter body on. Once all the rods were adjusted and the shifter bar installed I had an inch or so of clearance between the bottom rail of my seat and the shifter in 2nd and 4th - but I had to always have the seat pushed all the way back (which is no big deal as I am 6' tall)
Greg.

Yeah, my father's truck has the Comp. Plus with the '55-'57 car shifter lever, too. With me/him also being six feet tall I have never seen a need to move the seat forward from all the way back position. Is your seat all the way back or adjusted forward?

You might find relief by using this handle, with or without some fabricated adapter(s) to attach it directly to the shifter:

Yep, that's the one I have. Supposed to be for a '55-'57 car IIRC.

Re: Shifter clearance problem with Muncie 4 spd and bench seat

if you look at that shifter and lay your standard hurst comp shifter over it, you'll see the shifter ball lands in the same place on both shifters, it only helps if the shaft of the shifter is hitting the seat, but for me, that'd have to be a tall shifter. I tweaked an offset shifter forward some for perfection, and made a shifter bracket to move the shifter up and forward, you can see it near the end of my build thread. It's an np440, but pretty close.
