Phosphoric acid bad for cast iron exhaust manifolds?

Looking to refinish my ram horns, have read conflicting information about using Phosphoric acid on cast iron exhaust manifolds. Just looking to prep the surface for a simple high-temp rattle can refinish. Would a simple engine degreaser suffice?

Degreaser may likely leave a residue which paint won't like. What about just a good ol fashioned pressure washing at the coin op? Or both...degreaser first then blast 'em up clean and let them dry.

Drop them in a bucket of vinegar for a couple of days. Rinse, dry immediately. They will look brand new. You can buy bulk vinegar at Costco.
