Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
Got the driver's side exhaust cut out, tucked up waaaaaay higher than it was, and re welded. Took the first drive around the block, all seems well, runs smoooth! Boogies out pretty well when you step into the kickdown.
Then gave the shop a looooong overdue cleaning. Badly needed! Vic rewelded the fitting yesterday, gotta cut the dash for vents and run hoses and wiring for the A/C. And do the cluster. And reassemble the dash.

Good luck with the A/C vents, I cringe just thinking about cutting into a painted dash

I had the same thought as soon as I read it. There's no question, it ain't gonna be jack-azz. Anxious to see the process here.

Always an automatic smile maker taking that first drive and making it back unbroken. Congrats dude.
I've decided that if my C-10 needs a motor swap I'm gonna try to use the latest and greatest. Like the new corvette one. Direct injection and more tranny speeds than displacement liters. Just a thought. So I need to hope my sbc lasts a little while longer so I have examples to follow. Lol

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
I'll probably get some Big Black up on here. The alignment shop also scanned the stupid stabilitrak code off the DIC for me and reset the TPMS. Much better. They also backed it into a pole and crunched the bumper, which they replaced. Now it's at the stereo shop again, hopefully get it back today.
In other news, Boppa came out and cleaned out Yeller and washed it yesterday. I finished cutting the cluster housing, welded the plate in and painted it in and out. I also painted the top cover and fan block off plate.

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
When they crunched the bumper, make sure they didn't kink the quarter on that side. Those trucks are bad about that. Depending on how bad it was, it might have rippled the top of the wheel opening as well.
Nice to see you were able to test drive old Yeller!

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
Thanks for the tip, JB. So far it just appears to have scratched the quarter behind the bumper, no biggie. They had an inner brace that got bent that they didn't have, so it's going back next week, I'll be sure to check. I had to have it at the stereo shop today, so the 2 guys that know the digital adjustment system could work on it, then it's gonna be haulin verrry special cargo to the Nationals this weekend.
Seems to drive well, Boppa bombed the block again last night. I can tell you it'll light the tire right up from a dead stop no problem. He's coming out tonight, we're gonna install the fan cover and fit the hood. Then hopefully get the dash vents cut and the tubing installed so I can install the radio. Then I gotta do something to get this cluster knocked out.

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
Good luck getting what's left knocked out by the weekend. I'll be stopping by Nat's and looking for you all. My truck isn't road ready yet so it'll just be me. But I plan on coming by at some point, to see Yeller, and get to meet ya'll in person.

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
Bummer about the truck, but it'll be great to see you!
Got the electric fan cover, the HVAC fan block off plate, the motor cover, and the hood readjusted for better fit and installed last night. Also got the brakelights sorted out, Got pinched under a hitch bolt. Then got the speedo face done on the cluster project. Gotta wipe numbers and repaint tonight, then assemble and starrt wiring.

Ok, sooo... we made it. We worked till after 9 on Friday night, but we made it. It runs, Boppa even sanded some off the tires and has already taken it to work once. Even got the stereo workin' again. Here's some pics for Newfisher, he wanted to see the wiring.

Chip, the pictures are awesome, but to see your truck in person was amazing. Your trucks looks so clean and the engine install was very well done. Thanks again for the food too. I had fun.

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
Ok, so we dropped big black too so, here we go.
Ok, the 4x4 stance was NOT cutting it. Literally saw Z71's that weren't this damn tall. Hrmrmm. Up and ready- the surprise was, the lower balljoints were SHOT. Dear lordy, what a PITA. Did the drop in half the time it took to do the BJ's. Had to cut the Pass side out outright. On the stretcher. Worst outta whack alignment on a drop I've ever seen. Spindles and Mc Gaughy struts with 3 rings in front, factory 1.5" lift block removed and 2" shackle in the back. Much mo betta.

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
Back to business! Got it done enough to look assembled and get to the show. Irony moment: Temp gage still doesn't work. FML. But, the computer controls the fans and they work right, so rock on. Everything else is cool (knock on wood). We even managed to get second place in a very crowded class! To the pics!
The obligatory QT shot- Engine shots- On the Lawn! Had the engine cover striped- me likey!
