New Headache Rack
Hey Squareheads, Having worn out one bed already I wanted to beef up my new one--ran angle iron down the top, and tie it into a headache rack behind the cab. So, with the help of a talented friend this is what we came up with. Any suggestions before paint and bolting it in?

Re: New Headache Rack
Tail lights will go in the holes on the sides of the rack. Oh, and I am not sure what color of paint to go with. Still have some black (same as truck) but would like something a bit more of an accent. Thoughts?

Re: New Headache Rack
All mine ended up black, easy to run to the local hardware store and get some "touch up".
I like it, personal preference would be some "protection" for the back window. Over the years, I've smashed out many a back window.

Re: New Headache Rack
throw a plate on top and throw a yellow caution light up there and maybe some back up fog lamps

Re: New Headache Rack
Powdercoat. Since its going to take a beating. Por 15 is a great product, but most of it has a problem with UV. So paint would be needed anyway. I would get it chemically stripped to get the rust out of the inside.

Re: New Headache Rack
How foolish would it be to just rattle can it? Always have some on hand for quick touch up?

Re: New Headache Rack
Expanded metal works (and is small enough to block most of the stuff) Just a small, tube frame (maybe scrap from the hoop/rail build) with some expanded metal to fill in.
For that matter, some clips can be welded to the external frame and make the window armor a bolt in affair. Depending on the truck's use, I like old Rusty C10 s idea on the extra lighting. I've seem many a plow truck doing just that.
