I heard TREX had a few years that they experimented with soft wood shavings that absorbed more water then expanded when it froze. My brother had to replace his deck (mostly paid for by TREX).

Re: Just finished cutting my TREX bed wood!

Two year update...

Bed still looks the exact same. TREX is holding up fine. No expansion, no cracking, no shrinking, no warping. I drilled a couple holes in the front corners for drainage.

I do a lot of decking and TREX as well as other engineered wood products are quite heavy. Did the weight of this effect your ride/suspension?

Re: Just finished cutting my TREX bed wood!

ON a fleet side TREX ONLY adds about 63 pounds to the bed weight (assuming you you 3/4 TREX).... I dont think you would notice the difference.... yellow pine at #39 per cubic foot and Tex at #60 per cubic foot

Re: Just finished cutting my TREX bed wood!

I just took my old wood bed out last night, that was fun, and so I have to ask how you were able to get your new flooring under the lip of each box side? And how did you get your cross members stable before you laid down the Trex? As from what I found the cross members are only held up by the floor. To me it looks like the entire floor and cross members must be assembled then brought up from below the bed to meet those box side lips and the rear box support.

Re: Just finished cutting my TREX bed wood!

I assembled the complete box off the truck. If you're doing it on the truck, raise the bed up on some stands at each corner. Crossmembers in place on the frame. Wood on top of crossmembers, then drop bed on the wood. Drill holes in wood around the perimeter of the bed and wheel tubs, and the holes that go through wood/crossmembers and frame.

In your Finished photo the wood looks black, is it just the angle/lighting or did you change it from the gray weathered look? It looks great

Just the light. Bed still looks the same 8 years later. Truck gets used for truck stuff all the time, and sits outside 24/7.

Re: Just finished cutting my TREX bed wood!

Wow, an eight year review! Appreciate the updates, and that's a big endorsement for TREX, kinda wish I went that route now! A lot of prep and maintenance of normal wood probably should be weighed up in the overall decision of what material to go with. My truck sits outside 24/7 too. If the past is an indicator of the future, I probably won't have my truck in eight years' time to do a review of how my bed wood is holding up!

Re: Just finished cutting my TREX bed wood!

Still sitting outside, still looks the same. I use it constantly. I'll take a pic later today.

As promised. I sweep it out once or twice a year. I've hosed it out a couple of times.
