62 K10 Side Motor Mounts?
I have a 63 early (62 frame and running gear) it's stock with a 283 with front motor mounts. I've owned it for 26 years. I'm embarrassed to say its been sitting for the last 10. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger and revive it into my daily driver. I'd like to upgrade many things which is no big deal if I can figure out side motor mounts. Been searching all day with no luck. Any help? 62 frame is wider in the front and being its a K it lacks the cross member of a C.
Thanks in Advance Greg |

Yes, pics please. What does the truck, motor mount and suspension, etc., look like now?

Re: 62 K10 Side Motor Mounts?
The '67-'72 K series engine mount crossmember fits rather well. You'll just have to drill the holes to bolt it in. We did this on my son's '63 with an earlier frame. See attached pic.
The '73-'87 K series engine mount crossmember would be my choice but those may require some modifications to fit the early frame. I just like those engine mounts better.

Re: 62 K10 Side Motor Mounts?
Thank you Captainfab! I knew someone had done this. Funny the reply came from you. While I was surfing for an answer I came across your brackets. Excellent work. When I decide on the direction of the build I'll most likely need one. One of the biggest reasons I stopped driving the truck was I couldn't take the poor brakes. Drum brakes with a single reservoir master and lack of self energizing front brakes created more than one scary white knuckle stop. Thanks again.

Re: 62 K10 Side Motor Mounts?
Sorry for the delay. I'm guessing it's a mute point anyway sense the question has been answered and confirmed. Thank you again. Also in reply, I might not change but by going with side motor mounts you have more options. An example would be an LS motor and also a lot of accessory brackets use the old front mount holes as attachment points. Just in the planning stage I want a workable plan.

Re: 62 K10 Side Motor Mounts?
if you decjde to go with the side mounts I would be interested in the horse shoe engine mount and round cross member, if you are willing to sell them

Re: 62 K10 Side Motor Mounts?
I see someone has changed your engine over to a long water pump. It will be easier to mount a PS pump with the long water pump and the front mount, but I still prefer the short pumps on these trucks.

Re: 62 K10 Side Motor Mounts?
Good eye Captainfab! It has after market power steering. I've owned this truck for over 26 years. It had it when I bought it. And AC. Someone spent some time and energy with these mods. They are well done. And I would think not to common. But I'd have to also believe after all this time there is something better. Do you agree?

Re: 62 K10 Side Motor Mounts?
Yes I agree that there is room for improvement. A 350 with side engine mounts would be high on my list.

Re: 62 K10 Side Motor Mounts?
as long as you still run the old cast iron b/housing with the mounting on either side. there really isn't any need to change the mounting. if you install a later engine and change to a later b/housing or a/trans then you have to use the side mounting as the rear mount will go to the trans. either way you are using 3 point mounting which is the basis of most eng mounting.
the biggest problem with that front mount is installing the p/s pump as it uses the same 2 bolt holes ron |
