Aluminium Radiator...
Hello all. Getting ready to pick up a radiator for my 51 3100. I am trying to plan ahead in order to keep this ball rolling and will soon be looking into getting my engine/tranny squared away. I want to go ahead and pick up my radiator just to ensure that I have good clearance once I start placing the motor mounts. My plan is to run with an LS3/6l80/90. I'd like it to be aluminium and built to last. I am looking to hold nothing back with this build (within reason) as it will be my daily once it is finished and if I'm going to spend money, I want the money that I spend to last. Has anyone had experience with the 3 core aluminium radiators that Brothers offers? Do they work well with the stock shroud and without much modification as described? Quality construction?

I haven't had experience with the radiator from Brothers. We used a PRC radiator on the 48 truck and plan to use one for the 48 Suburban build. PRC will add the steam vent and relocate the upper neck for the LS. They have a shroud and SPAL fan option available too making that part of the build a little easier.

I used a Champion. It dropped right in and dropped the temp.

All of our radiators use dual 1" thick cores, for a total core thickness of 2" (same as a brass & copper 4-core thickness). That style radiator has around 44 coolant tubes per core (approx 88 total coolant tubes on that model)

do you have a cross flow option for a 59 chevy truck? i have a stock style aluminum one, but it hits my ps box, so i need the crossflow to add some clearance at the bottom.

We don't currently have them for 1955-1962 models, but if someone wants to send us an original and be willing to test fit with pictures, we can easily make them and would also give an additional discount (PM me if interested)

And use cardboard to protect the fins during mock up. Only remove it when you are ready to start the truck. You can walk into the garage and the fins will bend. This has been my experience with every radiator I try to keep looking good.

good suggestion. A lot of it has to do with the thickness and type of aluminum used for the fins too. Ours can take basic handling and not bend, but more aggressive use can make them deform. the good part is with a very inexpensive fin comb, you can easily straighten them out on most radiators.
