how to get a rough idle ?

Hy all

i would like to get a sound / rough idle like this one =

Which cam / headers do i need to get a rough idle....

I know it just sounds a bit stupid but i dont care so much about driveability , the car is not a daily driver (more a show car).

So i am looking for a very rough / mean idle (sound)

Thanks Achim

Re: how to get a rough idle ?

To me the best way to get the sound you want is to get with a company that can custom make you a cam. That way you can get the sound you want, plus whoever specs it out can match it to whatever else you have done to the vehicle. This way you will get the performance and sound you like at the same time. As for the headers, you would probably be good with running long tubes and some straight through type mufflers.

Here is a video of mine. I had the cam custom made for my wants and needs. The exhaust is crappy but it still sounds good.

Re: how to get a rough idle ?

The simple answer is just get a cam with a low LSA. Lower lsa = "choppy" rough sounding cam. You don't have to go with a massive lift cam, just look for something with an LSA under 112. 109-111 is usually pretty snappy.

While the other factors (lift and duration ) will have an effect on the sound, the LSA will have the most cause-effect.

As an example, I'm running a TSP Tsunami w/ 111 LSA in my 6.0 This is a true dual exhaust (no crossover) with bullet-style mufflers (sometimes called resonators).

I don't know what you engine combo is off the top of my head, but on a mostly-stock engine, you can get any of the low-lsa cams to "chop" pretty easily. Keeping the idle low in the tune will make it even more pronounced (But will increase the chance of stalling or incurring misfires)

Re: how to get a rough idle ?

BR3W is correct. LSA is the way to get the sound. My cam is a 111 LSA. I still need to have mine tuned to get the idle down some, and mine will sound better.

By the way BR3W, that truck sounds awesome.

Re: how to get a rough idle ?

i played around with the idle under/over speed timing and some other tables to get a "ghost" cam effect.

was kinda fun for couple days. went back to dead stock idle coz i'm old.

Re: how to get a rough idle ?

Another way to get it to "lope" a bit at idle is to lean it out. You can even get a stock cam to slobber a tiny bit if it's leaned out a bunch.

Regardless, this is a 112.5 LSA in my 6.0

And here is my current custom turbo cam with a 114+6 LSA

Wasted, it sounds great, do you have any muffler or just your "turbo" muffler. I am guesing it is a straight shot...
