Big window conversion update

Helped a buddy do his big window conversion which gave me the chance to practice before welding mine. The spot welder made it a snap, now we just have to dress up the opening and then off to finish mine. I learned a few tricks doing his, so I am glad to have had the opportunity to gain experience.

What did you use for a spot welder?

I bought a miller msw-41 110 volt unit. It was about $800.00 with the extra tips and such, but worth every penny. I have used it several times on different things

I'm wanting to do my truck soon, I have not had any luck finding a donor cab to cut out the rear panel. Is anyone still making the interior panel? I emailed classic big window with no luck. Did you do this one by modifying the factory small window panel. Looks so much better after its done

You can't modify a small window because the inner contour is quite a bit different, on the big panel it is a sharper radius.

Things like how much panel adhesive to use to get full coverage without having it squish out.

In the dome light hole I am going to drill a small hole and run a screw to help hold the two panels while the glue sets up.

I ran a small ratchet strap from the dome light hole to the rear view mirror bracket to hold the panel in position while we welded and the glue set up.

Just lil things like that

I had 3 big window inner panels, I sold him one of mine. There was one for sale on here in the parts section

That company mentioned made a kit where you cut the corners out of the small panel and weld in the sharper radius pieces..... A lot of cutting, welding, and bondo work..... Much easier to change the panel unless you are a metal working god.

Directions on the 3M glue said apply a 1/8 bead then level out with a small acid brush to basically form a bed, then apply another 1/8 bead. I think a lil more than an 1/8 bead the second time would be better to ensure full coverage.
