Re: 5.3 swap in K5, need new fuel tank for 2003 fuel evap system

If you're planning on using the factory charcoal canister up under the hood then it may be easiest to put the sensor up near the canister, that way the wiring for the sensor can be a lot shorter and help simplify your engine wiring harness.

You can not use a resistor to fool the ecm to perform te fuel tank pressure check running resistor will throw a check engine lite for fuel sending unit stuck in range after so many miles without the fuel level changing you have to run the oem charcoal canister and purge selinoid and vent selinoid and they will check it with a scanner and make it function I ran my epoxy my pressure sensor to a 3/8 barbed fitting and put it in line between the tank and the charcoal canister. Also they do not like brass fittings on the evap line they *****ed about it

Re: 5.3 swap in K5, need new fuel tank for 2003 fuel evap system
OP - I just talked to the tuner I plan on using and he confirmed that the fuel tank size can be adjusted in the PCM's programming. Once it's been adjusted to the K5's tank size you shouldn't have any issues with the fuel pressure sensor tripping a CEL for the fuel system taking too long/not long enough to pressurize.
chebyshortbox65 - Do you have a build thread somewhere for your CA approved smog swap? There aren't many out there and I'd love to see what all you had to do. Also, the resister idea ls1nova and I were referring to was for making the stock fuel gauge read correctly/have the correct sweep not to trick the PCM about the evap system (just wanted to make that clear so nobody gets bum info). |

Re: 5.3 swap in K5, need new fuel tank for 2003 fuel evap system
No worries there was a lot of talk of resistors trying to trick the ecm into starting the evap moniter test that's what I was talking about you have to turning off all smog equipment related codes with hp tuners and it will automatically set the readiness test everything still functions te same just doesn't do the test anymore. And no build thread I never got one started I am currently building a 64 biscayne with a 5.3 and will probably start a build thread on the next truck soon a 73 k10 to 2 wheel drive bagged and ls swapped. So far I have got 2 cars through the referre a 87 caprice and a 81 c10 I have done a few harnesses for guys that got them through as well
