6.0/4l80 positioning

Im using the cpp sheetmetal stands with their sliders....how far back is everyone setting their drivetrain? Ive got mine as far back as possible until the trans hits the pinch weld in the tunnel....which is around 2" behind the vent tube.

Re: 6.0/4l80 positioning

balance is always better the further back and with a LWB you'll be fine, on a side note, how did the CPP mounts work out?

Re: 6.0/4l80 positioning

Right. I understand and agree to that 100%. Was just curious how far back others can get before any clearance issues.
The cpp stuff is nice. I have to pull the drivetrain back out to drill the holes in the xmember since im having to run the stands in the 6cyl frame holes....and to extract a broken exhaust manifold bolt -_-

Re: 6.0/4l80 positioning

Don't stress getting it too far back if its causing you any issues. While a central weight balance is in-theory ideal; making the engine fit in a way that you can work on it comfortably, and have clearance for coils/knock sensors/wiring etc is the real priority.

Nothing sucks more than doing all that work, and then having to do MORE work to relocate coils etc.

Re: 6.0/4l80 positioning

Set it as deep as you can....my old "chop top" , body dropped 69 is 1 " forward, from I6 spot? As deep as you are, cut or fold the pinch , on the trans tunnel (done that)! As said, as long as the heads/coil packs clear, you are good to go? Just "fit" it all, & call it done Longhorn

Re: 6.0/4l80 positioning

cool deal. thanks guys. i have roughly 3" spacing between the back corner of the passenger side head to the firewall so there is still ample room to work behind the motor. i think i will set the position to that, bend the pinch weld, mark my xmember holes.....drill and call it a day.

also my th400 member doesnt line up with any existing holes due to how far back it is set (along with using a 4l80) so i'll have to drill new holes for that as well (NO BIGGY). just need to measure and make sure the member is even on both sides and start PHO-kin shyt up!

im so ready to get this swap back movin!

Re: 6.0/4l80 positioning

I used CPP sheet metal stands and dirty dingo sliders with a CPP tube cross member. The cross member (th400) lined UP PERFECTLY with a set of holes back by the part of the frame that flips up. That placed the engine about 1.5" from the firewall and gave me room by the pinch weld to run fuel lines and tranny cooler lines.

Re: 6.0/4l80 positioning

yeah i am using the same th400 xmember that was on the truck...whatever it is from lol cuz the top bolts arent used.
i roughly have 2-2.5" between the back corner of the rh head and the inside curve of the firewall.

the xmember is hitting this bracket on the frame on the driver side but at the same time the trans is hitting the pinchweld on the firewall too. guess i'll mark it where it stands.....fold the pinchweld and start drillin new holes.....

shame none of the frame holes line up with the xmember tho
