1987 fuel tank(s) ??

Puting 5.3 into 1987 C10 with dual tanks. My question is this, the original 1987 pcm should still control the tank selector valve and the fuel pumps coming on in the tanks. If so, the fuel pump wire on the ls harness will go where?

Re: 1987 fuel tank(s) ??

Its all controlled by the switch. One side, (gray ) controls the pump and valve and Tan controls the meters. The 87 pcm went to the relay. relay to pump side of switch. I had to add an additional relay to isolate the switch because the Walbro pumps cooked the switch. The colors may be different its been a while since I looked at those wires. 20k miles and counting on my 87 GMC with a 5.3. Jay

Harley03joe, assuming that you don't have an electrical problem, it may be that the short 2 inch long hose connecting the sending unit and the fuel pump has turned to mush. I replaced mine 4 yrs ago and just had to replace both sides again. That 10% ethanol gas is torture on fuel lines. Now "submersible fuel injection hose" is available. For 1 foot the price is $29.99. I have a 87 with dual tanks that I changed to an 04 5.3LS four yrs ago and at that time changed fuel pumps to the Walbro. The bed of my truck has been off so many times, I used wing nuts the last time to secure it.
