Need help with Tires

I know this has been asked a million times but I'm new to the forum and haven't found a direct answer. Anyway I purchased some American Racing Torque Thrust II wheels for my 1984 Chevy C10 SWB. Fronts are 15X8 and the rear are 15X10 both with 3.75 backspacing. My questions is, how big of a tire can I put on the 10 inch wide wheel without having to do any tubbing modifications?? I was leaning towards the mickey thompson sportsman S/R 26X12X15. Anyone running this setup that don't mind posting pics? I'm going for the prostreet look. The fronts are on mickey thompson sportsman 26X8X15. yes the truck is lowered. Please help

15x10 with 3.75in backspace will not fit on your truck with it that low, you need 5in backspace or lift the truck back up.

Not really good with the whole backspacing thing. So what problems will I run into trying to mount these with my truck lowered?

The fender will sit right on top of the tire.
Put your new front rims/tires on the back and see how much (if any) clearance you have.

Ok, so the wheels were bought by my wife asa birthday present. Before I hurt her feelings and trying to sell them, are there any other options to make these work? Fender modification etc? Any help would be appreciated

Mount 295/50/15 tires on those 10in rims with 3.75in backspace then have your rear end narrowed 1.25in per side.

With those wheels you have 2 choices as I see it. Narrow the rear axle or widen the fenders. Neither are cheap. I'd just pick up 2 15X10's with the correct back space . There is no reason you have to tell the wife.

Thanks. I talked to the rim shop and the wheels don't come in 15X10 with 5 inch backspacing. So I would have to have them cutom made and spend more money so the wife would surely know whats it hit the account lol

I am running original TorqThrust D's 15X10 in the rear with I think a 4 inch back space and my 275R60X15 (27 inch tall)T/A's clear fine. Mine is not as low as yours but I see no reason I could not drop it more.

See mine is low but I still have plenty of room in my opinion. It's 16X8's mounted on now with a 285/60/16 on the rear and I have no rubbing issues or anything. Don't know the backspacing etc because these wheels and tires were on the truck when I purchased it. Looking at your truck makes me think I can pull it off lol

is 5 inch back spacing the deepest we can go, what if I wanted to put some 12" rims on a 2WD truck lowered 5 inches in the back could I do it without wheel well or axle mods?

To fit the biggest wheel/tire just get some cheap parts and a tape measure.

I had to widen my inner tubs for my 10 rims. I have huge tires though, I doubt you would get a 7 inch backspace on there without rubbing.

UPDATE: sent the rims back to the place I purchased from to exchange for 15X10's with 5 inch back spacing. Of course more money now, but hopefully now I will be able to run my wide tires without narrowing my rearend or widening my fenders?

I have huge tires. 345/55/15. I think you will be fine with the 26x12x15s.

You indicate your truck is lowered. How is it lowered & how much is it lowered?

A 275/60-15 is 28" tall (w/variance per mfr).

Honestly, I'm not sure. Purchased the truck and it was already lowered. The frame and bed have no cuts so I would guess he just flipped the leafs

So.... Glad to see you opted for the 10" wheels w/5" back spacing. It may be more for the wheels, but I bet it's less overall vs. swapping/narrowing the rear end or widening the bed (plus it WILL look better vs widening the bed).

That being said, you indicate you already have 26x8x15 MT radials on the front 8" wheels. 8" tire divided by 9" wheel (8" wheel = 9" overall width @ the beads) = .88" of rubber per inch of wheel width.

Your proposed rear size is 26x12x16. Those tires would yield 12" tire divided by 11" wheel = 1.2" of rubber per inch of wheel width or 73% difference. That calculation indicates your front tire sidewall will be s t r e t c h e d out slightly & the rear sidewall will be pinched (if you compare them).

Now, about that highlighted statement above..... The Pro-Street look is "bigs & littles". The rears should be taller. I like keeping them close to OE sizing (or taller if you must) otherwise the wheel well opening starts appearing HUGE visually.

A better choice based on your targeted look would be 28x12x15 if you had to be able to tell your buddies "yeah.... it has 12" wide rubber on the rear".
Visually, a 28x10x15 would still be as wide as the rear wheel & better match the front proportionally as viewed from the sidewalls.

Something to consider if a visual detail like this means something to you.....

Thanks for breaking all that down for me, I really appreciate it. The 28X12X15 was an original option believe it or not but I was wanting to make sure I didn't have to do any other modifications for them to fit. But this is exactly why I asked so I could get all the information I need and get the proper fitment. So, with the correct backspacing the 28's should fit no problem right?

And according to Jegs the reason I went with a 12 inch wide tire is because it has the "recommended" wheel widths listed there
