th400 slip yoke in 4l80e

got my th400 yoke off the DS and cleaned up today. i slid it on but realized the original 4l80e seal is bigger than the th400 yoke so i was wondering (searching yielded nothing) if there was a 4l80e seal that will work for a th400 slip yoke??

Re: th400 slip yoke in 4l80e

The seal is not the main issue....The thin wall yoke doesn't fit the bushing!

Thin wall 32 spline yokes only came on '64-'67 TH400's in BOPC passenger cars, I have not ran across one in awhile? Where are you guys coming up with such obscure parts???

99% of 4L80E's had a bolt-on yoke from the factory, Meaning you will need a "Counter Bored" Yoke to clear the O-ring boss on the output shaft, Like this....http://www.dennysdriveshaft.com/p69_..._on_truck.html

Re: th400 slip yoke in 4l80e

I bought a new 4L85e from GM Performance Parts and guess it must be one of the 1% as it uses a slip yoke. Also.....I went with a yoke for a 1350 u-joint. Felt like if I am upgrading the trans to handle more power that the u-joints and d-shaft needed upgrading too. Just running a 1350/1310 combo rear u-joint in the d-shaft for the 12bolt rear end for now...till the rear gets upgraded to a Dana 60 or worst case a 9" with a 1350 pinion yoke.

You can also use a later TH400 yolk, It was just the real early ones are a different size.

But that is a GMPP trans, Not a production unit. The only production 4L80E with a slip yoke style output shaft (That I can think of) were installed in Bentley's, Rolls Royce, Aston Martin & Jaguars, And 1 piece drive shaft Savanna & Express vans.

Re: th400 slip yoke in 4l80e

So do the later 68 and up th400 yokes have 1350 series? Great if they do, I have one on a shelf waiting to be used.

I got my 400 turbo yoke out of a 67 Chevy truck, so that must be why it was so small.

Interesting to know that Bentley's and Rolls Royce's had 4l80e's in them, never knew that. But I have had two complete 6.0/4l80e 2wd lift outs both out of 2500 Silverados, one was an '03 regular cab and the other was an '06 extended cab, and they both had slip yokes from the factory. I didn't know the slip yoke 4l80e was hard to find, when I realized my 67 400T yoke wouldn't fit, I just went to the pick-n-pull and pulled one out of a 99 Chevy van as that's the most common source for them there.

I maybe wrong about the rarity, I see mostly 2500HD/3500 & Workhorse chassis 4L80E's. Are your "lift-outs" from light duty 2500/1500HD?

That would make sense though, How many would tear up a 4L80E in a lighter duty truck?

They were both out of 2500's, but not sure if they were HD's or not.

Re: th400 slip yoke in 4l80e

mine is from a 04 silverado 2500hd. my th400 yoke splines up fine...just the seal diameter is bigger than the actual yoke diameter. ill source the smaller seal and install a new ujoing.

Like I stated earlier. The Seal is not the main issue. The Extension Housing Bushing is also to large for your yolk.

Only run the CORRECT yolk with a barrel diameter of 1.885".....Serious transmission damage will result if you use a 1.688" barrel yolk!!!!!!!!!!!!
