drop spindle and brake advice?



I'm looking at a few options for converting my 63 c20 front end to 5 lug.
I was looking at these two kits:

Any thoughts?
Should I switch all the tie rods to c10 or just do the outers?
Or should i go with the special c20 spindle that fits 5 lug hubs?


The rear end is not here yet, but its from a 71 and the price was right on car-part.com

I bought the eBay one from Toms Classics, I got the 6 lug version which came with drilled and slotted rotors for no extra cost, IMHO it's a great kit really good value for money

I would just add that you should be weary of cheap drilled/slotted rotors. They can be prone to cracking along the drilled areas, as often they're not designed to be drilled originally, and are stock rotors that have been drilled. Many companies that do that tend to drill too far towards the edge, which can compromise the rotor especially under high heat.

Personally I'd just grab some donor stuff from a 71-72, or 73-8? or just put something together. Kits give you all that stuff, but they aren't flexible, and if you want to upgrade anything you're throwing away unused parts.

Most of the "disc brake swap" happens with the spindles anyway. The bearings and little stuff are all parts-store readily available. Plus, since it runs a regular D52 caliper, you can upgrade to something like this for only a few hundred bucks. I got my Caliper setup from Scotts HotRods at a nice price.

They are either ChromaStars or PromaStars, I'd have to check the invoice to tell you for sure. There aren't a ton of shocks that will fit this short of a static size, but still hold a truck. At 4" of drop, the compressed shock is only about 9.5" long, and droops to about 12-12.5"

Thanks for the advice everyone. So I've got access to a 70 c10 for parts. Those spindles should work if I change my ball joints? Can I still put 5 lug rotors on those spindles? All of the disc brake sticky threads only mention half tons, so I'm not sure....

A 1970 c10 will be drum brake.

I personally have the McGaughy's stuff myself, and anything they make are going to be hard to beat. They are USA made and bolt right up.
