Anybody heard of McGaughys Suspension?
So I am looking for some 2" drop coils for the front of my '74 half ton. I know that LMC Truck has em for $150 plus shipping but they don't tell you the brand or any specs, I don't like that. So I go lookin' on eBay where I come across these McGaughys suspension coils. I am not affiliated with them nor peddling their stuff. I never heard of the outfit, so I am asking if anyone has?
Also what's interesting is that they want $110 for the GMC ones and $140 for the Chevy ones, same part number 33128 and free shipping, so sounds tempting not even sure if this is their website http://www.mcgaughys-suspension.com/ they seem to be out of Phoenix Arizona |

McGaughy's is a good product.
Look at other places besides eBay. Summit racing usually has free shipping. Or look at the board vendors on here.

I would contact the spring manufacturer. I think the answer will vary from brand to brand.

Re: Anybody heard of McGaughys Suspension?
Not that it matters but, I believe the that ones LMC sells are McGaughys. It's been maybe 10 years or so since I bought some lowering stuff from them. I think the springs were McGaughy and spindles I bought were Western. My memory could be a little dubious.

Re: Anybody heard of McGaughys Suspension?
Call McGaughy's or Bell Tech and talk to their tech lines. That being stated, I have dropped several trucks with both brands and have had no issues with either one. I did not ask about the preload, either.
Never ask an Engineer to do a Blacksmith's job and NEVER ever ask a Blacksmith to do an Engineer's job. The Blacksmith will build it, the engineer will calculate it's failure rate.

Re: Anybody heard of McGaughys Suspension?
Those springs from Classic are Moog springs. $99.99 + overweight shipping.
Summit Racing has the same exact springs for $76.97 (with free shipping on orders over $100.00). They are stock height springs, not drop springs. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mog-6452 Here are some of the stock spring numbers and their ratings. I think if was Rob in the Make It Handle thread that listed these. Spring rates for stock style C-10's seem high, but this is do to the A-arm ratio. Here are some stock spring rates Moog # 6082 722 lbs/in 6 cyl, and light v-8 Moog # 6542 842 lbs/in std v-8 Moog # 6102 1015 lbs/in bigblock, longbed c.s. Moog # 6104 1016 lbs/in 3/4 ton, sits 1/2" higher than #6102 Moog # 6454 1060 lbs/in 3/4t bbc, c.s, 1 ton If you only want 1 1/2" or so drop, use the 6102 3/4 ton spring, and cut 1/2 a coil. Also, Early Classic Enterprises makes some good springs and parts. http://www.earlyclassic.com/

Re: Anybody heard of McGaughys Suspension?
I thought I read in a post on here that 1 full round cut off of a spring = 1 in not 1/2 round = 1 1/2 in?, but then again I am easily confused. BTW rockauto has the 6102 springs for 65.79 not sure on the shipping though.
