New to the 60-66 generation. Please help.

I just came to an agreement on a 66 suburban. My question is what are some sources of information on parts swap compatability between Burbs and trucks and info on 1 year only stuff. I ordered the 60-66 lmc catalog for the truck because I couldn't find the burb one. It looks like a lot of the front end stuff interchanges but I am sure that there are subtleties that I have not developed a keen eye for yet. I do know that my dash is missing a couple of things or they are broken. I have the ash tray but the heater controls are missing levers and there is another thing missing in the middle. Not sure what it is. I am off to look through the threads and figure these things out but I thought I ask here first.

Hi sk8er. From the back of the doors forward is mostly the same as a pickup so your good with replacing dash pieces. the only differences I know are the rad cradle mounts on the frame have a rubber cushion in them and the grill surround has two rubber bumpers on the under side. Also post some pictures of your new suburban.

There are some pictures on the other thread title looking at a sub please help. Those are the ones I have now. When I get it to my house I will post more pics. Thanks for the info.

like 65 sub mentioned all the dash interchanges, the heater is 64-66, the steering wheel is 66 only, the instrument cluster will interchange 64-66, but 66 temp gauge has a extra line on it , although 64, and 65 will work.
I have had some difficulty with turn signal mechanisms and columns, so if yours is still the o.g. 66 order parts for a 66, or if you get a replacement out of a 64 , then order parts for that year, etc..

65 sub mentioned the vulcanized rubber front core support mounts:
if yours are still good, use them, if they are broken , you can use some off a truck, even though they are different.
they switched to the rubber mounts on the full bodied vehicles to reduce stress on the front end.
the suburban core support bolts directly to the mounts, and does not use the rubber washers like the truck does.
he also mentioned the braces on the grille support- those are there to support the front end if the front mount fails, the rubber piece would rest on the bumper brace- again this is only needed for an extreme failure, so if you needed a grille support off a truck , it will work.

the rockers, inner rockers, foot wells, and front floor pans will work out of a truck, the main difference in the floor is between the passenger sill plate and the seat, the sub will have a step built in, and is different than a truck. the floor from the rear of the front seat back is suburban only.

the suburban "rear cab mounts" are similar to a truck , but thinner, the truck replacement pieces can be modified to work, but are not a direct replacement.

I have some good pictures of the floors in my 64 'burb thread in my signature.

the rear bumper and brackets are sub/panel only, although a front could be modified to fit.

all the frame/engine parts will interchange (same as a short wheelbase 1/2 ton) there has been some discussion on the rear springs being suburban only, but in a thread I looked at , there were part #'s listed for a heavy and light spring, fitting in all the trucks, panels, and subs
