Re: Missing Issue / Possible Fuel Pump Failure

I think most people put their videos on youtube and link them here. It does sound like all the valves are working. I am curious about that tilted distributor. I don't recall that being normal on a big block.

Re: Missing Issue / Possible Fuel Pump Failure

It's not tilted Al!!
It's the cap style!
It's just an optical delusion!!

Re: Missing Issue / Possible Fuel Pump Failure

Ok, have some pictures but I haven't "made it pretty" yet so don't expect much. And yes I had to disconnect some plug wires and such to get everything clear of the rockers for testing so that isn't the reason I have this issue . I also have the video on YouTube for the rocker travel to see if I had a bad cam lobe(s).

YouTube link:

Some feedback on the video would be appreciated.

With all I have replaced, and no sensors to worry about, what the heck could this be? I guess I'll break down and buy a carb as the choke doesn't work on mine (never did even when hooked up) so that has to be replaced anyway. But please if anyone can think of what has been missed, would love to hear it.

Cadillac Al, this is the second distributor (look at pics before this post), both have the same tilt. Sits perfectly flat on the intake manifold, not sure what the designers were thinking.....

Re: Missing Issue / Possible Fuel Pump Failure :SOLVED

So broke down and got a new carb. After some fine tuning, engine runs great at idle and everything between idle and WOT. Having a choke that works is a really sweet thing by the way
Thanks to everyone that responded to this thread. I really didn't think changing the carb would fix it but since I tried everything else I could think of, it was my last attempt before giving it to a good mechanic (which I can't afford). The only thing that still bugs me is that when I changed to the original carb, I still had the issue.
Hope this helps somebody else before they sink as much time and effort as I did into this problem.

Thanks again!!
Pat

Re: Missing Issue / Possible Fuel Pump Failure

Edelbrock carbs want Edelbrock fuel pumps. Stock pumps can put out 15 lbs. Where an Edelbrock carb want's 6.5 lbs. High fuel flow/pressure could be it. Like the clogged filter could have been messing w/the pressure.

Re: Missing Issue / Possible Fuel Pump Failure

Something to think about with the Edelbrock carb and electric choke...
there is a small inlet hole on the bottom of the choke area. this allows air to access thru the electric choke area and warm the spring, after time the spring will stretch and throw it out of wack. Also seeing the sludge in the filter, a bit might have passed thru and gummed up the needle in the carb
