New questions regarding NV4500 swap & slave clearance

I was getting my parts rounded up for the swap and was about to order the Advanced Adapters bellhousing so I could run an external slave cylinder on the drivers side. The reason for this is because I was under the impression that the front driveline (4X4) would interfere with the slave cylinder on a stock height truck.

However I am being told now by someone else that I do not need the high $$$ bellhousing and a factory bellhousing with the slave on the passenger side will clear everything with no problems. His claim is that he has swapped 5 NV4500s into different trucks and used the factory bellhousing on each one with no problems.

Can anyone confirm this? If I can use a factory bellhousing that would sure be cheaper on my pocket and could find one locally.

Thanks in advance

My factory bellhousing has the slave cylinder on the drivers side, however it is two wheel drive (1985).

Look at it this way....chevy built a gazillion 5spd 4wd trucks over the years. Not sure what year truck you are working on but on a square all your 4wd driveline is on the passenger side and your clutch controls are on drivers side..

Look at it this way.......I said an NV4500.......not an sm465. Nv4500 bellhousing put clutch controls on the passenger side. So since a sm465 bellhousing won't fit an nv4500 I am forced to use a nv4500 bellhousing.

Would a hydraulic throwout bearing be something that would help?

I'm sure an internal slave cylinder would solve my issue but I wanted to keep with an external slave cylinder for the ease of replacing it when the need arises

I saw recently somebody redrilled the nv4500 so the sm465 bellhousing worked on it. thats a cheap way to do it.

Maybe someone redrilled your nv4500 to fit the sm465 bellhousing or yours is running an aftermarket bellhousing

Re: New questions regarding NV4500 swap & slave clearance

I appreciate everyone's comments and trying to help but I'm really needing to know if a factory nv4500 bellhousing with passenger side clutch slave will clear the front driveshaft.

Search on username DirtyLarry, he's swapped NV4500's into both of his squares and use them off-road regularly. He uses factory parts wherever possible, it's a great reference thread on how to do it with the max number of factory parts if that's the route you want to go.
