60-62 Frame Horns

Common problem with them cracking and breaking.
I had hoped to replace them with the 63-66 style, but it's not just about the bolt spacing, the 60-62 bumper contour is different than the 63-66.
I know I could find someone who has a nicer set they could cut off an old frame, but I'd like to see if we could come up with another solution. Has anyone fabricated their own new horns?

Re: 60-62 Frame Horns

I actually made it this far before I realized the shape of the bumpers are different. I knew the bolt spacing was different, but I didn't realize the shape of the bumpers on 63-66 were different from the 60-62.

Re: 60-62 Frame Horns

You've gone that far, why not just find a 63-66 bumper to fit the new horns? Or am I missing something?

Re: 60-62 Frame Horns

They're not welded yet. Just hanging there for mock up.
Yes, I've considered getting a 63-66 Chrome Bumper.
I've got one more thing I'm going to try.
I would rather not spend $180.

Re: 60-62 Frame Horns

Isn't the 63-66 frame taller here ? Might interfere with the grille surround . The notches in the surround for 63-66 are taller or deeper than 60-62.

Re: 60-62 Frame Horns

I'll chalk it up to another lesson learned.
No big deal. I went ahead and repaired the 62 horns.
I'm comfortable with my welding skills.
I'll just weld them back on.

My front frame horns are shot too so if anyone has '60-'62 horns or another solution, please reply.

Re: 60-62 Frame Horns

I cut mine off. Bolted the broken pieces to the bumper. Tack welded the pieces together. Then welded the repaired horns back on.

Re: 60-62 Frame Horns

I would weld in some gussets to keep it from happening again.

Re: 60-62 Frame Horns

I am in the same predicament. I currently have a set of frame horns from a 63-66. If I welded those on to my 60 Chevy would I just have to use the 63 to 66 bumper?

Yes, I just want to do few more alignment checks before I reinforce them.

Re: 60-62 Frame Horns

It's almost like there should be a reinforcement piece that could be fabricated to bolt to the existing frame. That way even those without the ability to weld could just bolt it up.
