Accessory drive brakcets with L99 water pump

Hello, I'm interested in seeing what style accessory drive brackets or kits you guys have used on your LS swaps. Ive some some research and the L99 water pump has the same spacing as the truck motors like the LQ9 but has a driver side upper radiator hose outlet to make it nicer to run a shorter simpler hose to the upper drivers side radiator input on the c10 radiator. I'm curious what after market or OEM accessory brackets there are that have the correct spacing to use the L99 water pump but also aren't so huge and bulky like the factory truck brackets, so please post up pictures of what you have and how it fits with the frame rails, And any other coressponding location.

Re: Accessory drive brakcets with L99 water pump

I used a gen 5 Camaro power steering pump and Gen 4 Camaro alternator with the L99 pump in my '72. A/C compressor (not shown in pic) was stock truck/suv unit.

all the details are here in post #74:

Re: Accessory drive brakcets with L99 water pump

That looks like a pretty nice set up, if I could I would rather the alternator be in the upper drivers side or if your staring at the motor the upper right side

Re: Accessory drive brakcets with L99 water pump

So its confirmed that the l99 water pump has the same pulley spacing as my lq4 water pump? I would assume it uses the same water pump gasket then?

Whats the GM part number on the pump?

Re: Accessory drive brakcets with L99 water pump

Here is a comparison for the belt location between the L99 water pump and the LQ9/LQ4 truck water pump, the water pump over all is shorter but the pulley/belt location is the same on the L99 water pump, this is the part number for the GM L99 water pump: #251734

Not enough belt wrap on the Crank Pulley & though less of a concern....The Power Steering Pulley as well.

That set-up will "Glaze" the Drive Belt in a few thousand miles then start squealing. As a bonus, The front of your engine will get a nice coating of fine black dust (The rubber from the Belt).

I see this a lot at work, When I inform a customer their aftermarket Drive system is mis-engineered......It is the last thing they want to hear, The best advice I can give......Don't BUY problems. The guys who build crap like that are not engineers, Or at least I hope not.

Here is a pic of factory L99/LS3 accessories, Notice the belt wrap on each component.

Well "Shucks"!

Thanks for bringing this up before I spent the time and money!
Now I need to go back and see how I routed the belt on my 78

Thank you very much! Greatly appreciated info, now that you've brought it to my attention I can definitely see that set up not doing me a favor

Re: Accessory drive brakcets with L99 water pump

Anyone know of a ACC drive that has the alternator and power steering pump switched from the L99 LS3 set up? Going for a semi factory placement to the c10's for my 67 if I can while still using the l99 water pump

There isn't really an OEM FEAD that meets your criteria. Holley makes a setup that puts the alternator above the PS pump. It's basically a copy of the 'vette accessory drive. They also sell spacer kits that will move it out to the truck/gen 5 camaro belt spacing. Here's a picture from their site (you don't have to run the high mount A/C unless you need it.

That's not bad, looks like I could still run the L99 water pump with those FEAD brackets from Holley, and I probably will stick with the stock lower AC mount. I'll have to go look for that kit.

Re: Accessory drive brakcets with L99 water pump

67chevy1series. which motor do you have? I know on my LQ4 the power steering pump looks completely different then the Holley setup above. I took my water pump off as I'm in the process of painting the block. I'm tempted to put a new water pump on as the motor has over 60K miles.

Curious if the l99 pump will work on my setup without touching anything else?

The power steering pump to be used with the Holley kit shown is a Corvette part.

If you replace a truck water pump with the L99 Camaro water pump without changing anything else, the L99 pump will interfere with the truck alternator bracket in the area of the idler pulley.

Re: Accessory drive brakcets with L99 water pump

I have an 02 5.3 LM7. Although I don't have a L99 water pump to check fitment between the stock truck brackets, but I can already see the upper drivers side radiator hose port will be in the way of the stock truck alt. Bracket. That and IMO the stock truck set up is made to just function and not for looks at all, I would like to find a cleaner nicer looking FEAD.

You can remedy this by using the Dirty Dingo idler relocate kit. It moves the idler on the truck alternator bracket down and right, and then you can trim the offending part of the bracket to clear the water pump.

Here is a pic, I still have a bit of cleanup to do on the bracket, but you get the idea:

I used the ls simple bracket on my motor and I love it. It came all assembled too so it's really easy to install.

Thanks

i wonder which spacing that other style water pump uses, it's like the L99 pump but it has the upper radiator support on the passenger side of the water pump

I don't have power steering on my truck but the bracket has a place where you can mount a ps pump. I'll get a pic of that for you later

I would think under a hard left or right turn that the power steering pump would make as lot of belt noise.
looks like there is not much belt on the PS pulley
