4L80e Converter choice opinions...
Been driving my 6.0/4L80e swapped 90 Jimmy for a few months and i will be dropping out the trans to replace the crank seal that's leaking. The guy in Vegas who did the conversion charged me 6-700 bucks for a supposed TCI converter but my eyeballs see a bone stock gm converter behind the fly wheel. So while the trans is out i'd like to swap in something affordable...even slightly used if need be from a good source. There are a lot of choices out there and it makes my head hurt. I will be doing some towing if life continues to suck next year (unemployed directional drilling mwd hand of 10 years) as the last resort is a camp trailer behind said jimmy and doing the hobo joe park for two weeks and re park after move until life gets better. I have had the pan down to replace the harness since it was missing two of the 4 tangs to hold it in place. Almost needed a jack hammer to get the pan off. Idiot in vegas must have thought the leak was the pan so he siliconed the bajesus out of both sides of the pan gasket....anyways the fine shavings in the pan were what i'd expect out of a taking care of trans with a few miles. While we are on the subject any thoughts on a valve body with a shift kit?

Yank, TCI, Outlaw. Depends how much you wanna spend and how much your putting through it. If your towing a lot and running her in a 4wd, your probably not looking at a super high stall, so you don't need to spring for any of the $2k 5000rpm stall's etc.
More than likely, your looking at staying with a lockup style converter, probably in the 2800-3400rpm range. Full disclosure, I have no idea what driving a heavy stall feels like on Colorado Roads....all that up n down and speed changes is not exactly the conditions that they love. I was running maybe a 2400-2800rpm stall (i also got sorta jacked around on my old converter). For daily and weekend driving it was decent, but with my newer setup and the way my truck gets used, I was leaving performance on the table with that low of a stall (in terms of ET). Still a good stall will cost $8-1500

HD-2 Shift kit and depending on the use you can run the stock 310mm (B-82) converter. Typically they flash at 2000-2500 rpm.
Is the motor stock, and what is the final drive?

Motor is stock. 4.88's with 35's.
Stock stall is 2500?

A converter can flash (rev way up when you mash) to a bit higher than the rated stall, moreso with stock converters. The stock is around 2k, so if you mash down it'll flash to 21-2500rpm before really "catching"

Most the 80s are lower but the 310mm is a bit higher. Just an option for a stock motor that you will tow with unless you feel like spending around 8 for good single disk with a billet cover. Used converters are always a crap shoot. I have seen way to many that need to be rebuilt for my liking.

I see there is a B82NS. Whats the new style and should it be avoided?

The ns is just a newer version and if I remember right was lighter. The 82s just had a better stator fin angle than the 81. Most of the 1/2 trucks ran the 81. Like I said if you are not built and towing the 82 is a cheap option.
