4l60 tranny question...

I have the opportunity to buy a 4l60 for a good price but am uncertain as to whether or not it will work with my plans. I've searched and found mixed answers and the guy I may buy it from told me it will work. It's out of a 95 SS Camaro...so it's the old style with the one piece housing. The guy told me it's the "later built" '95, so it is computer operated. Does that make sense? He said it's got the front pump that is compatible with the '98 LS1 that I will be using. He said I'll only need a flex plate spacer and it will work fine. Can anyone give me a definitive answer as to whether or not this will work? He told me he'd sell me the tranny for $75...so if it will bolt up and not be an issue with the wiring and ECU...it's a steal.

I wouldn't buy it.

Re: 4l60 tranny question...

Ok, that's all I needed to know. Seems like it's just easier to go with a '98 and up 4l60. Thanks!

Re: 4l60 tranny question...

I used an early 4L60E with the integrated bellhousing myself - mostly because I'd already been running a TH350 behind my 4.8 and that would let me re-use the conversion flexplate I already had.

Re: 4l60 tranny question...

That seems to make sense in your case, since you already had the parts needed. I'll continue my search for a later model 4l60. I'm ready to start plugging away at this swap.

Re: 4l60 tranny question...

Yeah, if I'd been planning to go to a 4L60E to begin with, I probably would have just sourced my engine and transmission as a matched pair.
