Re: Better winter beater?

With gasoline prices low, an old square 4WD may make the most economic choice, until the Saudis decide they are willing to let the US frackers survive.

Re: Better winter beater?

I agree. And thanks for everyone's input. I still have to wait for my tax refund to come back. But I'm going to try and find an old squarebody Suburban.

As long as it does well as a winter driver. I also think it'd be great for other reason's. I can fit the whole family and dog in it. So it'd be good to take out camping in the summer's, hunting, and maybe one day a plow so I don't have to shovel the driveway as much.

I had also considered a S-10 Blazer or Jeep Xj but I feel like I'd have similar problems as my old Bronco 2.

Re: Better winter beater?

If your looking for the best winter driver, anything 4wd with modern snow tires.

Tires make a vast difference in winter driving capability. My 37" mud tires are awesome in snow. Fresh powder I rule. As soon as that gets pounded into ice my truck SUCKS.

4WD and skinny snow tires will make just about anything much nicer to drive on icy roads

Re: Better winter beater?

Well couldn't find a decent Squarebody Suburban. So I ended up getting a 1992 Suburban K2500 with a 454. It's not in the greatest shape but it will work for my needs.
