need gears +

New member here

Hello, I have a 68 GMC 3/4 ton 4x4 that has 4.56 gears, tooo low and also the rear end is damaged and needs replaced. I am looking for a set for front and back of something in the 3.08 range for gears. I hope to find some bolt on parts such as a whole tube from tire to tire, but what ya got? 1/2 ton ok, will trade my parts as well.

Located in MN - 55312 Thanks!

I hear 73 and up will work if I move the leaf spring mounts to match the truck.

Is it a dana 44 front? I have a D44 that has 3.07 gears in it, that I was planning to pull just for the experience. The gears are probably the stock ones from the 70 truck, but it was most likely never or rarely put in 4WD so they should be good.

I can send you the gears & carrier for the cost of shipping, but you still have to pay to have them installed. I've found that sometimes it's cheaper to just find a complete axle & stick it under there than to have a shop regear for you.

Here's a guide to show you which axle you have. It's probably a dana 44 or a GM corp 10 bolt. They're kinda hard to tell apart. I know all my D44's are marked somewhere near the top, rear(I think) that says HD-44.

If it happens to be a Dana 60 then it's worth it's weight in gold, but it's probably not.

Depends on what you mean by messed up & only the D60 fronts are worth anything. The rears are a dime a dozen.
