4l80 and headers?
Anyone from personal experience have any issues with headers hitting the 4l80?
Not sure if Doug Thorley headers either 1 3/4 hit the trans? Could I get away with running TBSS or LS3 Camara style headers? I was told some have to trim an ear off the 4l80 mount to clear the headers? |

Re: 4l80 and headers?
Hooker now makes headers for C10 trucks with LS swaps. I have a set (with a 4L60E) and they fit great. I believe they built their product line around a 4L80E though.

Re: 4l80 and headers?
First thing I do when I come into possession of a 4L80E is fire up the sawzall and get rid of those damn ears/tabs off the bellhousing. They are ALWAYS in my way. lol

Re: 4l80 and headers?
I have a 4L80e with the Doug Thorley's in a '67. Its a very very close fit, but they do clear. Barely.

Re: 4l80 and headers?
I just put the 1 7/8 doug thorley headers on with a 4l80e. They clear fine, but I just found out that a column shift with the hard linkage is a no go. The header exits right in front of the bracket mounted to the trans. I'm switching over to a floor shift, but I think a cable linkage would also work if you wanted a column shift.

Re: 4l80 and headers?
Column shift works with Lokar rod unit. Its what I used to have, although you have to put all the 'stuff' on the trans before headers b/c there is no room once headers are in place.

Re: 4l80 and headers?
The parts list just keeps growing. So this is the part I will need if I run DT headers

Re: 4l80 and headers?
And these are the "ears" you guys are talking About? They are cut off in the photos.
No structural integrity lost by cutting them off right? http://www.tbssowners.com/forums/4l8...fications.html |

Re: 4l80 and headers?
I just tried the rod linkage from cpp and there is not enough clearance with the dt header. I don't think there is really any difference between that and the Lokar one.

Re: 4l80 and headers?
Tony are those headers the 1 5/8 or the 1 7/8? I believe they exit at a different angle

Re: 4l80 and headers?
Yes the cpp bends but that's not the issue. Its the bracket that comes off the trans. I have
The 1 7/8 headers |

Re: 4l80 and headers?
Which DT headers are those? They are not the Long Tube headers by DT for these trucks. Granted its TIGHT but the LT headers exit right at the shifter hook up....these look like shorty headers....

Re: 4l80 and headers?
I will also add, my 80e/Lokar Rod/1 5/8" DT LT headers; I could only pull the column shifter down to 3rd, but I had the first run of DT LT headers, I think they redesigned them so you could actually use the stock rod and others I have talked to could get trans to 1st with new header design.

Re: 4l80 and headers?
Would be nice if someone from DOUG Thorley chimed in before I spend the money on something designed to fit that it is not clear if it will have figment issues with my 4l80e shifter

Re: 4l80 and headers?
To clarify for me: 71 c10 2wd
2005 6.0 w 4l80e 2wd Cpp sheet metal stands and slider mounts Doug thorley tri-y headers clear the trans but the cpp rod shift linkage mechanism connection at the trans sits right where the header exits. Maybe some creative exhaust work could make it work, but I'm switching over to a floor shifter. Hope this helps! |

Re: 4l80 and headers?
I used the S/S works headers, 1 /34" tube headers with 2.5" aluminized pipe all the way back. S/S Megaflows also. have no issues with the clearances on either side. The drivers side has the gear cable mounted so it's a little close but has plenty of room to be took out of the truck without taking the exhaust out.
Best pictures I have of them.
