Putting a lq4 in a 71 c10. The pan from the truck is obviously to low.

I have decided to use 73+ C20 engine frame stands and clamshell mounts and the same years dirty dingo sliders.

I was thinking about using a ctsv pan. But want to make sure the pan is above the from born with that motor mount setup. Anyone run running the same engine mount setup? Photos of the oil pan clearance would be appreciated!

i used the stock truck pan and mine was fine

On my 4wd build(see link below) I used the newer style crossmember, pedestals and mounts. it took some work to clear. Not sure if the 2wd stuff is the same. I used the square body LS engine mounts from DIY4X.

Like TD239, on my sons 70 C10 we used ECE LS kit and we kept the stock truck pan and he has a 3.5/5 drop. never have had a problem. but you maybe laying frame so in that case the truck pan would be questionable.

The CTsV pan should work well with that setup.

I appreciate the help. Trying to order the right parts the first time.

I can get the pan, oil pick up tube, windage tray, dipstick and dipstick tube for $266 shipped. All new parts. Not bad right?

I picked up a CTSV setup for around $270, fits just right on the 71. I dont think ill ever bag it so i could have gotten away with the hot rod pan, but better safe than sorry i suppose. I think the Holley is the most shallow.

My truck pan hangs about 1 1/2 below my front member. I built a skid plate. I still think I should not have problems unless there was a big rock in the road lol!

I used ECE mounts which is essentially 73 stands I believe. I think this set up will work just fine. Have you checked other pan swap links I have photos posted of clearance.

On my '71 I used the stock '71 small block motor mounts with adapter plates to the 5.3, and a ctsv oil pan. The bottom of the pan is about 3/4" above the crossmember. Worked great for me since its lowered 3.5/5.5".

I installed the pan on my engine yesterday. searched and found the torque spec for the oil pick up tube of 106in. lbs. Of course after I installed the oil pan and have everythiny buttoned up I get on the forums and see some people recommend using loctite on the bolt for the oil pick up?

Since the engine is on the stand should I pull the newly seal pan and remove that one oil pick up tube bolt and put blue loctite on it?

I never put loctite on my pickup tube bolt. But I also didn't torque it to spec, I just tightened it like any other bolt. It's been running for over 20k miles like that with no issues.

For extra security I bought the brp oil pick up girdle, it what's costly but not more then I paid for the engine.

When installing the oil pan. I know that alignment is crucial. I measured the alignment between the motor in the pan on the driver side and it appears flash I have attached a photo of that. Is there anywhere else that needs to be measured for alignment with the pan?

I have a static drop and used the truck pan. Yes it hangs below the crossmember but inless the road has a very sharp bump are something sticking up in the middle of the road it's not a problem.

Thats just a mess waiting to happen. ^^^^

Does not sound like a setup I would want to have leave my local town.... I like to drive my trucks across country and having to watch for high round crown the entire time would be exhausting. For the cost of a pan that is above the crossmember it shouldn't even be a option to run a stock truck pan.

I have drove my truck on the Hot Rod Power tour once already and plan on it again this June no problems at all. Over 3,000 miles in less than 8 days and I put close to 20,000 are more miles on it per year so I know all about driving my truck.
If you think about it in real life and not over thinking it how would it hit anything. Your tires would have to be completley flat and the wheel off one side and that is with a 15" wheel. I have never seen the middle of the road look like this before ^! Do I run over dead animals and such on purpose no and I don't worry about some one else hitting me head on either when I'm driving. Like I said over thinking it is the biggest problem with it.
Now if my truck had bags on it I would more than likely swap it.

They where Ok but I went with a different tire when they wore out. They lasted about 24,000 miles and I went with a better mileage tire this time. What I have now is a regular type all year tire.
The first 2 pictures are the back tires. The other two are fronts

I have those Hankook's on the wife's Tahoe love that tire it's also very good in the rain.

Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
