72 LSX mounts without cutting frame?
Hey guys I have a powder coated rolling frame that I want to use so Im looking for swap mounts that place the engine where I dont have to notch the frame to clear anything. Has anyone successfully done this? Its a 72 2wd frame and Ill be using a 5.3 truck motor. Dont want to mess up the powder coat job if I dont have to.

Re: 72 LSX mounts without cutting frame?
I'm not aware of any of the mounts that require doing anything to the frame. Some manifolds/headers and AC require it, so it really depends on what you want to do with the truck.

Re: 72 LSX mounts without cutting frame?
ive seen a couple swaps where they cut into the frame to clear the a/c and headers like you mentioned. im trying to avoid that so i dont mess with the powder coat.

Re: 72 LSX mounts without cutting frame?
Are you planning on running AC? What exhaust setup do you want to run?
I believe the Tejas mounts are a little higher and farther forward, which lets you run the stock AC setup.

Re: 72 LSX mounts without cutting frame?
Doug Thorley headers and hi-mount compressor bracket = no cut frame.

sounds like the tejas mounts are for square body trucks.

Re: 72 LSX mounts without cutting frame?
And trailblazer SS manifolds seem to be a good OEM option to clear the frame

changing brackets is going to be last resort. im hoping i can find mounts that will help and it looks like trailblazer manifolds are a must.

Re: 72 LSX mounts without cutting frame?
Has anyone on here used the early classic mounts. Ive read these can help me but their site says slight frame modification may be required?

I bought these for the '67 Panel Truck with the LS1/4l60e combo and they fit like a glove..... You can also get them in a coated version. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hooker-Heade...xTxRxO&vxp=mtr LockDoc

Re: 72 LSX mounts without cutting frame?
cut, turn and weld the stock truck manifold flange to clear the frame. stock manifolds are cast steel (not cast iorn) and very easy to weld

Re: 72 LSX mounts without cutting frame?
I second the Hooker manifolds. No cutting required. Now if you plan to use the factory LS Truck A/C compressor location, you're going to have to do some crazy custom lines to avoid cutting the frame.

Quote:
I built a jig out of wood to simulate the motor mounts and bottom of oil pan. I also built a mating jig to simulate the motor mounts on the block and bottom of the oil pan. I used this to align and measure my motor mount locations in the frame prior to drilling the extra holes required in the crossmember and to also keep things square because the mounts have elongated holes and they also have a high and low bolt pattern. |
