Re: 73 Super Custom GMC

Alright I got the motor done yesterday and ready to go back in the truck. Now I'm cleaning up the frame so I can stick the motor back in.

Nice work buddy. It'll be cool to see this truck after all your hard work is done.

Re: 73 Super Custom GMC

Thanks guys, had some rain and that slowed my progress, but I did get some more work done. Got the motor back in and carburetor back on for now. Working on getting the air cleaner sanded down, cleaned up and painted and some other miscilaneous stuff. Once this truck is back drivable again im going to take it to pressure wash the frame and suspension and clean it up, then a CPP 4/6 drop will be in order.

That motor might look a little too good. Now the brake booster, AC compressor, and some of the hoses look like they need cleaned up. It might be better just to rub some dirty grease back on the engine.

LOL! Your definitley right, the brakes actually feel a little soft and weak so I forsee the brake booster/master cylinder coming off and when that happens im defineilty going to make sure whatever goes back on is nicely painted

Re: 73 Super Custom GMC

Well I haven't updated this thread latley, I painted the radiator support and upper grille valance panel cover thing, and I got the radiator back in as well as the transmission coolant lines and stuff. The guy who owns the truck found a chrome rear can bumper so I'm going to see if we can make that work and take the farmers bumper off. And he also got the correct gauge bezel for it. But after pulling the gauge bezel off I seen more damage to the plastic lense for the gauges as well as seen before it has a crack through the speedometer (I think) so before I can put that on the lense needs to be replaced and the steering column really needs to go, the part of the lense where the shift indicator goes is butchered so the caddilac steering column shift indicator can take its space so that's all going to have to go back to the squarebody way first. Transmission is done and back from the transmission shop all im waiting on now is a new torque converter so this should go back together and be driving pretty soon

Re: 73 Super Custom GMC

Alright it's been awhile but I have continued to make progress. Since the last picture I have picked up the steel rims from powder coating and got the tires put on and installed them with dog dish caps on the truck, I've tried my best at getting some black off the hood and reinstalled it, I've sandblasted the air cleaner and the radiator hold down and upper fan shroud mount and painted them as well as installed them. I've also cleaned up and painted the passenger exhaust mandifold and installed it with fresh gaskets. Now all that's left is new battery cables, find a uncracked driver manifold locally, find a 73-74 gauge bezel, get a new lense for the gauges, new market lights, a 4.5-6 drop, and then a nice good all around cleaning.

Re: 73 Super Custom GMC

(Excuse the mess outside, been pretty windy and stuff keeps blowing everywhere) the fan shroud is cracked at the top so I still have to find another one as well as a good passenger inner fender. Would like to find the same jack hold down style as the 73 passenger inner fenders, anybody know what year they changed the stamping and jack/tools and hold down on the passenger inner fenders?

Re: 73 Super Custom GMC

today I managed to make some small progress, I received the original air cleaner decal in the mail... The one that was on the air cleaner when I blasted it was tilted slightly to the rear so I did this one in the same fashion. Not a concours build by any means but that one detail will at least be the same from the beginning and now until this sticker dies or falls off Haha.
