62 k10 4x4

Son has gotten a '62 K10 8' Stepside 4X4 and can't seem to find shocks.
Anyone know a source for these?

COOL! I just picked one up too!

Had the same issue because of the 3/4" hole size.

I ended up using a set of Delco shocks and pressing out the 5/8" bushings, drilling the rubber and installing the 3/4" bushings.

So far so good.

Original 1962 GM Parts book lists
Group 7.345
Shock Absorber
FRONT- 3166503 ALL W/4WD
REAR - 5552295 ALL W/4WD

Numbers change in 1964-72 parts book
FRONT- 3192089 ALL W/4WD...SUP. 3166503
REAR- 3197620 ALL W/4WD...SUP. 5552295

ALL W/4WD means the K10 and the K25 used the same shock absorber.
SUPP. is an abbreviation for SUPERSEDES meaning this part replaces the previous number

The 63 -66 W/4WD used a different part number.

I took my shock absorber to the local autoparts store that have the old specification parts books from MONROE. They were kind enough to let me browse through the book to find a shock that had some of the dimensions close to what was on the truck already. You would need the collapsed length from the center of the bolt holes as well as the full extension length between centers. The size of mounting bolts and studs is also required.

Re: 62 k10 4x4

thanks,
I went to Napa with the dimensions and they were not able to find one & weren't kind enough to let me browse the catalog,
Hadn't thought about replacing the bushings; thought they would be glued in.

Re: 62 k10 4x4

NAPA shows no shocks for 62, but does for 71 so if aerotruk63's info is correct, you can check on the NAPA website.

Re: 62 k10 4x4

I believe the technical info for shocks can be found on Monroe's website. Sorry I don't have a link. I would imagine that the shocks would be close to fitting up thru '72. Worse case, you might have to change the mounts a little to accomodate an available shock.
