Bringing Another '66 Short/Fleet BBW Home Soon
Dad noticed that a red and white '66 short/fleet big window truck popped up 6-8 months ago beside a barn near their house. He found out from a neighbor who owned the property and called to ask about it. At the time they didn't want to sell it, but said that they'd let dad know first if they changed their mind. He checked on it again a couple months back and they still didn't want to sell. Well, last night they pull up in his driveway and asked dad if he was still interested so they drove over to take a better look at it. He makes the deal, and we're supposed to go pick it up this weekend. He said it has some rust in the doors and edges of the hood. Tailgate is "perfect", the body is straight, and the dash is in very good shape. It's a V8/3 speed with gauges and both Custom Group option packages. Still has the original hubcaps and dad said that it's still all original under the hood. I'll post more pics once we go get it.

Re: Bringing Another '66 Short/Fleet BBW Home Soon
I've about written off ever finding a decent, affordable short fleet. They just don't show up like they used to.
Then you go spotting one in a field next to your house. Sheesh!, I guess it was meant to be. |

Re: Bringing Another '66 Short/Fleet BBW Home Soon
Oem4me, you need to move south, they're still fairly plentiful out here. Collectively this will be our third short/fleet/bbw/custom group optioned truck in the last four years!
This is the third old car dad has found within two miles of his house. Two were real "barn finds" and this one was a "near the barn" find. The other two were a '50 Chevy truck and a '66 Chevelle four door.

Re: Bringing Another '66 Short/Fleet BBW Home Soon
He won't keep it, just bought it to resell. He's got a friend that has been looking for a 64-66 red/white fledtside to restore. We may end up building it at the shop.

Re: Bringing Another '66 Short/Fleet BBW Home Soon
Got it towed to the shop this morning. It's been painted once, and the engine is orange so it's a later motor or it's been out and repainted before.

Re: Bringing Another '66 Short/Fleet BBW Home Soon
That's a drawback to living in Maine, you just don't see trucks like these kicking around that are salvageable, the conditions up here are too harsh.
