WANTED: Orig 66 TH400 dipstick.

The end of my trans filler dipstick broke off at the kink. Luckily, the end piece flaked off just after I extracted it from the tube. Now I'm looking for an original/correct one in good shape.

Can you post photo of the one you need? Application is SBC?
This is a common problem, often they crack and leak.

Why do they do that? Mine is broke off too and unfortunately is sitting in the bottom of the tube in the transmission. I guess I will drop the pan and retrieve it and find me a new dipstick.

Re: WANTED: Orig 66 TH400 dipstick.

They crack and/or break because of vibration. The metal develops stress cracks, then failure. Probably the wrong type of metal was used.

Re: WANTED: Orig 66 TH400 dipstick.

Here's the subject dipstick. 23-1/4" inches from stop to end. I didn't measure the handle, but it's about 3" or a little more.

Re: WANTED: Orig 66 TH400 dipstick.

Heres an NOS one Bruce so you can compare GM Part number. Original number was 3905449 changed to 1387568 and again to 1239014

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-1968-73-...ZWeEGb&vxp=mtr

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-1968-197...1UREK4&vxp=mtr

They are the same as Cars with TH400 so I have several extras used if you need one

Thanks for the early response. So, that stick looks like it's an inch longer than mine from the stop to end, right? (23-1/4")

Fractions of inches matter on this, agree? Just making sure.
Why's it look more like 24-5/8 in the photo? Thanks

Re: WANTED: Orig 66 TH400 dipstick.

Photo's distorted, cloth tape to give you rough idea! More recent measurements are with a steel tape. Can mic the width and thickness if you want. Also some minor surface rust pitting front and back.

Great, So helpful! ..While you are at it, would you mind weighing it and having some filings analyzed for carbon content? Just kidding. I found one. Thanks anyway. Cheers!
