MAF mounted to throttle body. Problems?
Still in the middle of my LS swap.
One thing that has come up is my air intake. Using the Sadden A/C compressor and Dirty Dingo A/C brackets, does not leave a lot of room for the air intake. I bought a Spectre intake that puts the filter right where my battery currently sits. I could relocate the battery but that would be a hassle as I already have my PCM mounted in that corner. My current plan is to cut about 5" off the intake pipe and see if that gives me enough room to mount the filter and still close the hood without it touching the A/C compressor. If all else fails. Was thinking of just mounting a filter to the throttle body. Could I do this and mount the MAF sensor between the filter and throttle body? I heard GM likes these to be further away from the throttle body, but I may not have a choice.

That is what I did initially for my C10...until the 4l80e forced me to bring the engine forward more than I wanted. It should not be a problem.

I'm not sure of the locations of your stuff and I'm assumimg you have a spectre cold air but this is how I did mine using spectre parts..I just bought a aluminum tube off ebay and cut it to fit...I've had no issues with where the maf is. Its about 2 " from the throttle.

Technically speaking, putting the MAF on the TB puts it at a point of potentially turbulent air, and doesn't fit within the GM/Delphi recommendations for installation. On most "squishy" tunes (i.e tunes with plenty of safe-room, not max effort jagged-edge builds), the MAF and 02's will be able to dial out some of the negative effects. You run a slight risk of stalling on situations in which the throttle goes from full open to snap shut, because of the rapid change in air volume around the tb as it snaps shut.
Or you can also change to SD tuning and ditch the MAF (or use it as a glorified temp sensor).

To piggy back on what Brew said, if your MAF is a dual IAT sensor, getting it further away from the engine will help reduce the sensor "heat soak" and give more accurate readings to the ECM.
