Rear main (crankshaft) seal question
The 5.3L in my C10 has developed an oil leak that seems to be the rear main seal. I need to swap out the torque converter, so now's the time to change out the rear main seal while I've got it that far apart.
My question is, do you need a tool to align everything or not? I keep seeing videos of people using an alignment tool, but I can't find them for sale/rent anywhere. Also - should I replace just that seal or should I also replace the rear cover seal too? Any other suggestions/tips/input? Thanks - Matt

This is the guy that makes the kits on LS1tech. I don't think you can rent them.

Re: Rear main (crankshaft) seal question
As long as you don't take the rear cover off, you won't need the alignment tool. If you do take the rear cover off then the tool is needed to align it up since it has no aligning tabs made onto it. The tool does make it easier to install the new seal though.
