Re: Boost your trucks A/C in 20 minutes.
The fan out of my 1990 Suburban quit one day so I put in a fan out of junkyard 1999 Tahoe. To be honest, I notice no difference.

Yes, if you want more A/C output, ditch that r134a refrigerant and switch back to r12 or better yet r290. I've got my A/C set up to freeze you out even when it's 100 degrees out here in Southern Texas.

Re: Boost your trucks A/C in 20 minutes.
HC refrigerants R290 & R600a can be used as an R12 replacement but getting a proper charge is different from CFC refrigerants.
The nature of government agencies like the EPA are valid considerations... This is Jungle Eddy's post on the Aircondition.com forum. That BBS may still be available via the wayback machine. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...48&postcount=6

Re: Boost your trucks A/C in 20 minutes.
Envirosafe is still available but not Freeze 12.
Quote:
A 71 should have the big Harrison A6 compressor. That compressor combined with the huge condenser on these pickup trucks should freeze you out of the cab on Max AC even using R134a. Most folks overfill the system with oil. Overfilling with oil insulates the inside of the condenser and evaporator so you don't move as much heat. You'll have to flush the excess oil out of the evaporator and condenser, empty the compressor, then refill the compressor with the correct amount of oil, replace the dryer, vac down, and re-fill. If your lines have a muffler you'll need to replace that section because you will not be able to flush it out. The only refrigerant with a spec for the number of pounds to use is the original R12. For non original refrigerants don't use a scale. Follow the link I posted to the Jungle Eddy method for charging the system. This method works with any non original Hydrocarbon and DuPont "Freon" refrigerants.
