1976 Blazer K5 2wd
My friend Brian picked this up last week and I drove it home for him. We both wanted it, but I'm finishing another project, spending $$$ and not in a buying mood...plus he has storage. It's a '76 2wd K5 with Air. It has plenty of rust, but it's all original rust Despite the rust, the engine hums like a sewing machine and there were zero leaks of any kind. The frame, suspension and drive train are all very clean. Price wasn't like a smoking deal, but how often do you see these and how many hairs are you going to split if you want one? It's just pretty dang cool. Honestly my only question about the truck is why don't the seats match and my conclusion is that somebody probably swapped out the what the nice set of front buckets for the junkers that are in there, because the rear is nice and original to the truck. Other than the cat piss smell, worry about dry-rotting tires and lack of adequate rear-view mirrors (center fell off) the drive home was enjoyable!
He's not on the forum yet, but I've been sending him threads for motivation. He plans to lower it and put some new tires on so it will be cool and safe enough to take the kids to get ice cream. After that who knows...I might buy it and take it over or he might restore it. We'll just have to wait and see!

Re: 76 2wd K5
I love all and any 2wd Blazers!
Too bad it's rusty. Drop it and drive it!

Re: 76 2wd K5
Drop it and drive it works so well, doesn't it? Cool that those hubcaps survived with the truck.

Re: 76 2wd K5
Looks like I'll be taking this one over. Seems like a good candidate for my Son's first truck? He's 12, gives me plenty of time...

Re: 76 2wd K5
Alright, alright, alright, time to do something with this thread. I think we struck a deal on this thing back in March but it got back burner-ed. In the meantime the owner Brian found a '63 step side that he's more interested which has been parked at my shop but needs to go to his house where the Blazer is now sitting. The Blazer is classified as a "barn find" because it's been in Brian's donkey barn (yes, that's a real thing) since we picked it up last year. We'll be driving it out of the barn and to my shop in a week or two for inventory.
I'm collecting suspension parts already. All new front end, drop spindles, rear flip kit, shocks, tires and brakes all around, then go from there on the interior and exterior! Planning to keep the hubcaps and thin whites. I also have about 30lbs of R12 burning a hole in my pocket so getting the factory air working will be on the list. Here is some inspiration:

I wish. It belongs to a guy I know...not sure if he's on the forum but I'd bet he lurks here. If you see this Mark say hi!

Re: 76 2wd K5
How does time tick by so fast as we get older? The barn dust just keeps getting thicker but updates are coming soon!

Re: 1976 Blazer K5 2wd
Operation get it out of the donkey barn / chicken coop was a success! Now I remember just how crusty it was. Four years in the barn didn't help. The real reason it's been sitting so long is the title was misplaced but has been found just recently.

Re: 1976 Blazer K5 2wd
Took some mental inventory in the light. Front floor pans, rockers and front lower fenders are bad. Couple rusty spots in the wheel wells. Hood is completely broken, poorly repaired and broken some more. Interior is full of mouse turds and mold. Rear window crank is broken off. But! I know the drive train works fine so I will be working on getting it running and driving around the yard this week. The back seat is the correct Custom Deluxe VDD2 interior, confirmed via sample with SMS fabrics. I like it.

Re: 1976 Blazer K5 2wd
Got it home and gave it a bath. Got the engine fired for a few seconds, but it's not pumping fuel. I am sure its gummed up from sitting so long. It smells terrible and I can't wait to get the interior cleaned out. The pics make it look much nicer than it is, but she's still loveable. I got the back window down for the first time (crank is broken) and was pleasantly surprised to find the rear floor in good shape and all of the spare mount parts, jack and spare all intact.

Re: 1976 Blazer K5 2wd
Yote, thanks! Plans are rust repair, functional repairs, new interior and 4/6 drop on stock wheels/caps/white walls. So yes, stock and patina for round 1. It's rusty in both front floor pans and rockers plus spots on the tailgate, rear wheel arch and the hood is toast as well as inner fenders and rear lower front fender. So I've got my work cut out there.

Re: 1976 Blazer K5 2wd
I really like those Blazers in that blue with the white top. I would say that with a carmel interior would be perfect in my eyes.
