Getting started on my windshield install. Would appreciate some help.

I bought my windshield and the rubber gasket at a local shop and had them install it, along with the chrome trim. They told me that the chrome made the installation a real PITA and they would charge extra for it in the future. Made me glad I didn't do it myself.

Started installing mine today, but despite a lot on hand slapping, cannot get it to seat all the way, bottom is fine, but look like it needs to pivot some more around the bottom to seat it at the corner and pull the top in.

Any tips or suggestions? It is the original glass I had installed in 1976 so I know it fits the opening. Classic industries rubber that fit good.

I'm guessing it's not exactly centered. Either that or the rubber gasket fit is making it harder.

The way I make sure I'm centered is to lay the windshield in place without the rubber on it. I then make a silver Sharpie and make a small line on the glass at the top center that matches up with a line on the cab w/s opening (using a small piece of masking tape).

Make sure you can still see your line on the glass you made after installing the rubber. Then take your Sharpie again and extend the line to the rubber. You now will know exactly where to lay the w/s against the channel for your install.

If you didn't do it this way or use some other precise method to center it, take it back out and do so.

Thanks, I just eyeballed it side to side after the rubber was on. Another thought was that maybe there is an old weld or rough spot on the pinch weld that is holding it up. Hate to pull it but probably what I need to do to be sure.

Of course I can't say for absolute sure but the fact that you eyeballed it leads me to believe it is the cause. I think it would be a stroke of luck to hit the exact center by eyeballing after the rubber is on.

I figured out this trick on my own several years back and it's been successful with all the windshields I've ever done.

Go back and look at my first post and see the small rubber blocks I used to prop the w/s up a little while I centered it and made my marks.

Went out and looked at it. You are right the passenger is out about 1/8-1/4", which does not seem like much, I can see where at the top it is slightly lapped over the upper body line where it should be flush when installed. Also I can see now just that little bit would keep the opposite side curved bottom from seating right. I am going to try and get it to move sideways before completely pulling it to see if that helps. I appreciate your help and insight.
