Can I put a period bed on this flat bed?

Well... a 4400 is a 1 1/2 ton ..not a 1 ton..but if you don't have a bed it may be hard to find what is period correct..most of the (correct) ones I've seen have a steel band around the bed that resembles the front bumper in shape..it has the same ridge design to to it..like in this pic

nice picture, thanks. I really want a pick up but this one has the inline six four on the flour and it's a dualy but no bed.

This appears to be the same truck.

It appears that the steel band around the bed is stock...

You could put a pickup bed on your truck..the cabs are identical on all the ad trucks except for the coe..the front fenders on the 1 1/2 and 2 ton are longer and wider than a half thru 1 ton truck though..check out lower 50s build.http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=648459

A correct period bed on the 4400 would be the bed with the ribs around it that Mongocanfly showed in post 2.

We have a 51 4400 out back that my daughter wants to build and put one of those beds with a hoist on it. The hoist because the truck that belonged to a friend of mine when she was little had a hoist and she always thought it was a really cool truck. Cost may eliminate that and we will just go for a nice flatbed with some nice stake racks.

You could put a box on it with fenders if you can find one of he long long 1 ton boxes in reasonable shape or build your own and widen the fenders quite a bit. There is no pickup bed/box that you can just set on the frame and bolt it down and be done though.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
